Sorry I am about a month behind. If it's not too late just wanted to add. All the responses (especially safety) are excellent. I have built; owned; operated and sold three custom paint shops and started just before "Imron" was available from the aircraft industy.
Father was senior air craft mechanic with Pan Am and had all the warnings for me, and those were the days when there was no MSDS required.
The transition from siphon feed to HVLP was difficult for my painters and sent them to school (I-CAR certification) and I went also, as this was a big investment for and independent owner.
Depending on your gun: I have $480. Sata top of the line and a $79. (lowes / home depot) Porter Cable. The transfer efficientcy is 60-80% (you can almost cover 1 1/2 times more with the same amount of paint).
I will skip all the PPG and Dupont double speak and cut to the chase: TSC carries BPS paint and universal hardner and it is VERY reasonable cost wise. And their primer is very good as well. I tested this product on a rototiller, (sanded-cleaned with Naptha, primed and painted) To good to be true? Excellent results-fast flash times, good hide (coverage) and four full wet coats as shiny as a new Porsche. No Joke. Painted lots of Porsches at the dealership I managed in between shops.
I let the rototiller paint cure for three days and took my pressure washer to it. Nothing I primed would come loose. Tines with a little overspray and no prep woulld barely come off.
Contacted 'Valspar' who has manufactured marine grade paint for many many years, makes the BPS paint for TSC and told them what my results were. Eventually got more tips and secrets to long lasting durable paint work and do not impress easily. I will include a pix of current project as i picutre is worth a 1000 words. This is a YM1610D rebuild - Good luck on your project, Mark
