pallet forks or grapple for boulders?

Just my opinion, but with a 1000lb heavy duty grapple, I'm not so sure that the M7040 is going to be picking up many 36" diameter rocks. :confused3: I don't really know, just my guessing based on what my 7520 can do. But then it is hard for me to believe the size of rocks that a lot of guys here seem to be able to move. Maybe rocks are lighter in other places of the country.

My thinking is that the M7040 is not up to the job, but then what do I know. I think that you will be using the NH for anything that is actually heavy.

Just my gut feeling. :2cents:

I made a boulder sling with about $10 in chain. Works great in setting large boulders exactly where needed. Not an original idea, I saw this somewhere on TBN in the projects area. One loop around the bottom (red), three lifting chains (yellow) to forks. Boulder is easily rotated while in the air.

Star Hill JAWZ

While these look good, he wood have to get the largest size they have to work the entire job and at over 1700lbs, I don't think that they would be much good on his Kubota.

Easily up to it. I've already moved the 3'-3.5' wide ones, but they're about 2' thick. They're not a perfect 3' sphere. I can use my LB115 for the real big ones. It'll pick up ~7,000 lbs. :D

Biggest problem on the 7040 is the R-1's look like they're about to roll off the rims on front.

The 7040 might be a little more tractor than you think. ;)

Nice idea. I like it. The obama-conomy has hit very hard and expensive attachments (other than a Artic snowplow I am buying) are out of style for me for the time being.

I think forks might be the ticket. Relatively light, very inexpensive, adjustable and useful for other tasks. I like the fact that I can mount the forks and then chain my bucket to them for transport, too.

I did just find a local seller with HD 78" grapple buckets ~1,500....tempting.

Fill the fronts with some water and your problems will be solved.

With a pin lifting capacity of around 3000lbs and a 1000lb grapple, I was thinking that the rocks had to be more than 2000lbs.

Do you have a helper on this job? If you do, maybe those rock tongs (low $$$ output) hanging from between the mounting pins without the bucket would be your best bet?

Good idea (I have the rears filled with rim gaurd), but not sure if I like the idea of filling front tires. I thought I'd over-air them a bit and see what happens.

That's why I'm leaning towards the forks. They're lighter and will give me more lift capacity. I always have the LB115 there to carry/lift the bigger ones, but they'd be in a bucket, since I don't have forks for the LB115. I haven't bought the forks yet, probably today/monday. Still looking for a deal on forks.

Those rock jaws are awesome, pricey though...

Why? I have had mine filled for years with ZERO regrets as have many others here on TBN. Filling the fronts has taken care of this problem for many guys here on TBN. ;)

I was also thinking some kind of sling.
