After reading through this thread, I thought how I might try to assist in this riddle. Instantly Google came to mind, and I scurried to the search engine, eager to input my key words. I simply entered "Pallets in field" and voila the answer came through in the first two or three "hits".

If you wish to share my secret to the real reason the pallets are stacked you need only click here and the answer will be revealed (eventually I hope).

I think the difficulty in arriving at the reason for the pallets, is that everyone who has posted on this thread has contracted PALLETMANIA!!!! Oh crap!!! Now I have palletmania, too!!!!
