OK, I'm either going to reveal my ignorance, or open a can of worms... I commonly stop the tractor (L3710), set the parking brake, throttle down, dismount, do whatever I need to do, then get back on. However I find that its difficult or impossible to release the parking brake until AFTER I throttle up again. Now it's been a while since I used a tractor on a regular basis, and this is the first "modern" tractor I've used, but this just doesn't seem right. What do the brakes have to do with the engine speed? Do I have power assist brakes and just didn't know it?

That is inconvienient, but no big deal once you know what to do. But believe me, it took me a LONG WHILE to figure this out the first time. When I was sitting there like a fool trying to un-set my parking brake, and couldn't do it, throttling up was about the last thing that occured to me.

And now the safety issue... This only happened once, but bothers me. One time I got back on the tractor, throttled back up, and the parking brake POPS OFF BY ITSELF! No harm that time, but I often adjust the throttle up while not sitting on the tractor (eg if I'm using the bucket to lift something off the ground with chains, I may get off to chain it up, then lift the loader while standing on the ground. Bad habit, I know).

I could not recreate this situation again, I guess that's good.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has any experience like this, or if at least someone could educate me as to what's going on.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi,

I have a B2910, so my experience probably means nothing...but how do you release your parking brake?

On mine, I just push the brake pedal, and the parking brake releases on its own. I don't really release it at all.

Does yours not work that way? You got me curious!

I also normally just give it a kick to get the brake off. But if I have the throttle at PTO speed when I set it, and and at low idle speed when I try get it off, I can kick it, stand on it, jump on it, it ain't coming off....

Weird.

Just a thought... I often catch myself clenching my jaw when operating noisy equipment. I probably set the brake harder when it's noisy.

I don't know how engine speed could otherwise affect the parking brake. Are you in neutral when you set it? Maybe the treadle isn't fully disengaged?

Here's a thought, the parking brake and throttle linkage are close together on that model. Possibly something is amiss in one of the linkages and is preventing the latch from releasing until you move the throttle and "get it out of the way". That's probably what I would have a look at.

Good point. I am not familiar with this model. Are the linkages connected with cotter pins? Maybe two are getting locked together?

It's kind of funny how sometimes you need someone to point out the obvious...

Yes, I now see that the throttle linkage mechanically interferes with the brake pedal. It's in plain sight, but somehow I hadn't caught that before.

KubMech, I'll assume from your handle that you work on Kubotas, and that you've worked on this model since you were already aware that the throttle linkage and brake are close together. I'm going to put a call in to the dealer, but can you confirm that this is abnormal? The left brake is hitting the throttle linkage pretty solidly. It almost looks like it's intentional, I just can't imagine why.

THANKS!

I would have to say that it is abnormal. Have the dealer have a look.
