Yep, I would plan on changing the filters and all oils when you get the gray. Consider the first change to be a power flush. Don't forget to clean the radiator inside and out. If you check out the last few years of messsages you will see that overheating kills more compacts than dirty oil. And take a close look inside the fuel tank to see if it could stand a scrubbing.
Gotta agree with Cameron, first of all his 1601D is a beautiful machine...and secondly, if there is any way to get 4WD then you won't regret spending the money.
Cameron, how do you like those rice tires?

I got the tractor from Robinson's in Sutherlin Oregon. The import very nice tractors that are consistently in very good mechanical condition. However, it did have a bit of rust on the wheels and hood. Robinson's had an old retired welder build the loaders but he is not building them any more. I believe that they are mounting Bush Hog loaders on them now.
When I got the tractor, I completely disassembled the entire tractor and repaired all of the little things like frozen hitch components rotted rubber grommets and gave it a nice paint job.
I sold it and bought a YM2010D because I had a large arena project that I needed a larger tractor to grade the site. The person that I sold it to is a neighbor and he developed a small vineyard with it. Yesterday he indicated that he would be soon done with building the vineyard and he was going to sell it because he would no longer need it. It now has almost 1000 hours on it and looks a bit more rough and worn.
I think I sold it for about $7,000 with the box scraper and some other accessories as well. He told me that he hopes to sell it for what he paid for it. Because there is such a high demand in my area for used compacts, he probably will.

I have only had to replace a handful of glowplugs. Tell the guy out there pooring diesel into the little cup in freezing weather how clever thermosart is. Yes i know that on some you dont have to do that. Remeber I never said Yanmar was junk I just said that they are not superior to all other brands.

Scotty,
I guess that I am one of the few that likes the rice tires. I live in the Napa Valley that has wonderful, deep volcanic loam (AKA Thick mud in the winter). They come in very handy around the place and I don't get stuck often, except last week.......
I also like them in the summer. They provide good traction in loose soil after I till up the back 40 and then need to drag soil or pull something heavy.
They do leave tracks in the lawn however, but the imprints go away in time with foot traffic.

Sorry to change the pace of conversation. But since we're under the parts and shop manual thread, I wanted to post a question. Since "gray" Yanmars are nearly identical to "US" Yanmars, I would like to know if someone can post the parts clones. Meaning, If someone had a 2610D or 2010, which US Yanmar would the parts most closely match.
This forum is so loaded with info. that my answer may be in here somewhere, but I havent found it yet. I know some of you more knowledgeable Yanmar professors could help-- /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Cameron aka calpyro,

email me off list, I have some questions for you about these tractors and I live not too far north of you, I have not seen many others from Cal on the lists.

Not a problem...about getting the thread back on track I mean. Trouble is, I don't know how you would find that information except on a part-by-part basis.....meaning that someone had either tried it and it worked or compared the Yanmar part numbers and found that they are the same. The US Yanmar parts books are all in English and so it is possible to cross reference some parts with other models. I just looked up the fuel tank cap gasket and it is the same for all models. Don't know how you would do that for the Grays, though,

Sounds tedious but who am I to talk? After all, I just looked up that stupid gasket!! What puzzles me is why would anyone want to know this stuff? JCooper, what is the advantage to knowing gray to US crosses??

Guess I'm just an info seeker. I like to know all I can. Not to mention that I'm working at the firehouse today and we're kind of slow this rainy Sunday /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif My traveling partner(my laptop) comes to work with me. That way I can read tractorbynet at work too---HEHEHE---........but the only reason I wanted to know is if I had a part I needed, I could go to an authorized Yanmar dealer and tell them what I needed. Without having to contact a gray market Yanmar dealer that may bee 500 miles away. I havent been a member long but this forum hasa search feature, which I love, so I'll try to ask questions that havent been asked.

It may be that the parts dealers will try to get you a part for the grey. But on the other hand, I order by e-mail or phone and get them in 3-4 days

I think what JCooper wants is the list of grays and their nearest US model. Maybe we should start a thread. "Japanese Yanmars and their closest US models"
