From Ford? I can buy aftermarket or used parts for Deere much cheaper than OEM, and I suspect that is to what you're comparing, when talking about any 50 year old Ford.

Those 8N's also benefit from ubiquity... they were way more popular and produced in higher numbers with fewer changes, than probably any individual model made in more recent years.
I bought a brand new main wiring harness from the ford dealer in 1990 something for $17.50 ish.
I was astounded.

And if you're really old, you might remember this:

You'd go in and buy a battery, but you didn't take it home right then. The parts guy would pull out the battery your spec'd, then fill it with electrolyte and set it on a charger. "Come back in an hour and it will be ready for you."

Good memories . . .
That was one of my jobs as a teenager working at a gas station.

Fellas, does this thread remind you of the old "parts guys"?

Remember going into an auto parts store or a tractor shop, and there would be a counter with books and three ring binders stacked everywhere?

And the parts guy would know just where to look to find the part. And he'd grab the big phone to call in the order.

We had a hardware store in town. The old guys knew how to do everything and they could recommend a fix - and the parts to make the fix - for any challenge you faced. The big box houses put most of those out of business.

In the town nearest the property I help manage, there was still a hardware store like that. The owners knew everything they had and knew where it was. They could help you with solutions when needed.

Go to a big box store and find a solution guy... they don't exist.

I'm an engineer. I can figure things out. I always like to hear how others might solve the problem I am working and have parts that can effect their solution!

Wood rat built a nest under the hood of my 1997 New Holland 6610. Had to replace 2 wiring harnesses. $2000 from Messicks, the only place that had them besides a place in Europe.

I have the same kit
If you browse the H-F store in various areas, you will find much more items for tractors and attachments.

I tend to visit their stores once every 2 weeks and I'm finding something to put to good use with the tractor or attachments.

There are two long threads here,
There are many pages of motor and corded products that are great.
It is easier to scout the 19 pages to find what is junk vs the other thread of what is great. (y)
There are many members here who are involved with H-F equipment.

Harbor Freight Tools that don't suck 1609 pages

Harbor Freight Tools that DO SUCK II 19 pages

If it was made in Canada, you are lucky you bought it before the 25% tariff went on steel and aluminum or you may be paying even more.
