whew...
i went to local kubota dealer and ordered a part 175.00 for my landpride mower... i was surprised at attitude at parts desk.

so i called another dealership when i got home. and asked about the same part... they didn't know me at all.. never been there.
price

...157.00

same part. same part number..

folks... it's clear... some dealers... oops at least one dealer is jacking up prices on parts... that is their "right" i guess.
but it is my right to go do business elsewhere... feel free to check... for a 5 or 10 part... i'll pay the jacked up price.. but for more expensive part, i'll spend some gas money. hmm. maybe other dealer discounted it from retail... i guess that is a possibility.

Messick's is also great in PA., and they will ship anywhere.

If you can find Kubota's MSRP on parts, that's a manufacturer's suggested retail price. Key word here is "suggested". The dealer is welcome to charge whatever he chooses - more OR less.

Dealers are all over the map on price so go where you are treated well and the price is acceptable. It's more than about just price but go where they welcome you and are looking to earn your business and respect. I'll bet the range of prices is maybe 30% from high to low.

That would not surprise me.

When ordering parts from Messick's, be aware of shipping costs.
If the part is small enough for USPS, that is by far the cheapest method.
If you do not ASK for Messick's to ship USPS, they will assume that you want UPS.
BIG shipping cost difference!

Get part number do GOOGLE "shopping" search....

What always cracks me up is the seller offering item for $99 and states "will not be undersold", next ad down same part $79....

Yeah, it's sad but true.

I have to replace the discs (turtles) on one of my Kuhn hay mowers soon. Priced at two separate dealers. $400 difference. I'll probably get a price from a couple more places before I order.

I know John Deere is flat accross the board on pricing. I know they don't haggle and they aren't running a flea market stand. BUT, just for sheits and giggles, I called them to say I wanted to buy a three hundred dollar item, and could save forty bucks if I bought it from the states. I told them I would prefer to buy locally. And I asked that if I could split the difference with them and get a twenty dollar discount, I would buy from them. No deal.

I recently bought a part for my wife's car. A search online showed prices from about $750 to $1500. It pays to shop around.

MOST parts guys are pretty flexible. You can get a better price just for the asking, if you are nice. Like asking for a Hotel room price, getting it and then asking for the corporate rate. Where does JD find these hard-balls? lol

I know John Deere is flat accross the board on pricing.

If that is supposed to mean that all Deere dealers have identical pre-discount pricing on parts you are dead wrong. Dealers set their own parts pricing as a percentage of MSRP using a variety of formulae and matrixes as they determine in house.

That has been my experience. Certainly in Canada and I have expereinced that in the States too. Identical pricing, no matter the JD dealer. The ONLY exception I myself found, was certain plastic panels for my Gator from Green Parts Store. But their price on shocks was exactly like everyone else.

My experience in the US is different. There are constant discussions on other forums about differing dealer parts pricing. The two closest Deere Ag dealers in my former home in NY were GUARANTEED to be 10% different on any part that was bought or priced. Manufacturers cannot legally force dealers to sell parts at a set price in the US. I cannot speak to how things work in Canada.

You would think, this would create a real problem for dealers. With anything being able to be payed for over the phone and shipped, soon word would get out and many people would be ONLY buying from the cheaper dealers. I know I would. Some extra bucks are better left in my pocket than paid to a JD dealer.

Needed a part for my L3650 so we called the 8 closest dealers hoping one might have it in stock. None did and I wasn’t surprised because it is an obscure part.
What did surprise us was only 2 of the parts desk offered to see if anyone had it in stock.
They found the part at a dealer a little further than I wanted to drive. What the heck, took an enjoyable road trip and got my part.
Price was actually cheaper than online.
