Pat's and a Draw Bar

   / Pat's and a Draw Bar #11
Here's a generic picture of a drawbar (red part) and a bolt on stabilizer (black part). Could you better describe the problem?

FWIW, I like that trailer mover hitch much better if you're moving trailers, but some people use their drawbar w/o the stabilizer bracket for many other things - towing with a clevis, etc...

I have the Pat's system. I also had the same issue with the bar turning. While it would work, it was annoying. Could have gotten the piece that tied it to the upper link, but ended up getting the system shown in this link:

It is handy to use to move the trailers around and doesn't rotate. I found it for sale at a Kubota dealer in MO, so picked it up on a road trip and was able to avoid the shipping cost.

I believe what is meant is that its only the red part thats used with a ball on them. ther eis the bracket thats optional that keeps the bar level and doesnt twist in the balls. Ive seen them without the brace and they work but there is movement.
I assume with the bracket and the pats hitch that there is possible a legnth problem witht he bracket . it woudl be long enough to go around the lift arm when the pats is on.

Again, the Pat's hitch changes nothing except making your lift arms like 2 inches longer. Some people (myself included) have had to add a longer toplink to accomodate this.

If you use a Pat's hitch with your implements and it works, this is no different. The length of the bracket has nothing to do with anything. That is why the toplink is adjustable.

True, the drawbar will turn with or without the Pat's system in place. But the drawbar lock shown below won't work because of the Pat's system, or at least I could not see how it would.

So, you either put up with it rolling or tie it to the upper link.

Ahhh, I get it now. You are correct - no way that will work with Pat's. If you buy a standalone drawbar and would like to put a trailer ball on it so that it does not rotate, the only way is to tie it in with the top link - and there is no problem or interference doing this.

Ok, now you have me completely stumped. What could possibly cause interference? The stabilizer/anti-rotation bracked would bolt onto the middle of the drawbar (if you even chose to use one - most people don't), and the other end pins into the toplink - again, a standard size. It wouldnt matter if the drawbar was attached with rocks and sticks - there is nothing to interfere with anything - it's just a standard sized part that fits hundreds of different tractors - specific dimensions and characteristics of lift arms make no difference at all.

Maybe I'm completely on the wrong page here and not really understanding what you are describing. Perhaps a picture to clear things up?

The OP wants to hook up the draw bar to the Pat's - that will work just fine. But he wants to add a trailer ball to one of the holes in the draw bar.

That will cause the draw bar to rotate when the ball is hooked to a trailer and pulled. A "draw bar" lock would prevent this but the Pat's has securement points that would interfere with the lock.

Here is a link to a photo of the draw bar lock.

The solution is to "lock" the draw bar to the top link with a steel tube welded to the draw bar. I have one.

You guys figured it out, I was at work all day an unable to reply. I have the red draw bar as stated in post. Since going from a 3 point quick hitch, I have been unable to use the drawbar lock (not long enough to connect to lower lift arms) with Pat's system. Would like to know if anyone has come up with a way to keep the bar from turning over. After picking up 2 rolls of hay I use tractor to back trailer into paddock. This keeps some of the horse poop off my truck.

greg, I think the drawbar he is asking about is the drawbar that goes between the lift arms, not the normal drawbar.
I see that now. All my tractors over the years have had the pendulum-type drawbar hitches, so that horizontal type didn't even cross my mind. About the only time you see them around here any more is on an old N series Ford.
