Pat's Quick Change question

I noticed that there is a difference between the Quick Change unit offered on this site and the one offered from Agri Supply. There is what looks to be an adjustment on the top of the unit on this site and an L braket of some sort on the one from Agri Supply. Anyone know what this is for and is it necessary. Thanks in advance.

In thread from a couple years ago, PATG, the manufacturer himself, explained the differences between these two hitches. The one in the lower picture is the premium product which is sold at a higher price. I have this product and the bolt you see is to lock the latch in the open position. I suppose it could be adjusted but I have never had the need. The one in the top picture is a more economical product he makes to meet the demands of people wanting a better price point. This one has a fixed piece of metal to hold the latch open. Both are supposed to be the same functionally. I can vouch for the premium version to be a great product and worth every dollar. I can also vouch for their customer service being second to none. You can not go wrong purchasing his products.

Guess I'm blind.... both the units appear identical to me...don't see the item you are referring to. My unit is like the grey one in your photo...attachment is easy. I've found the PATS people very easy to talk to... suggest you give them a call. Bet they'd get all your questions answered.

By the way, I recommend the PATS system.

Maybe this is not the place to say, but I have just removed the Pat's off my B1750.

Yes, they are a good idea on paper. My problems started when fitting it and one of the eight lateral bolts sheared - although I did still manage to get it aligned . The U bolts then kept fowling on the trailer drawbar - but again no real problem.

The mower fitted OK - albeit with the toplink on its fullest.

The chipper could not be hooked from below - so I attach it from the side like with ordinary arms - it only just fits as Pat's is larger than ordinary arms. A new top link was required. It then worked - although I need to keep loader on as tractor was very light on front now as chipper sat further back.

The rotovator was the game changer. The mounting pins on the rotovator are in rear hole on the mounting arms and the front of the arms fouled on the lugs on Pats. No problem, I thought, I will move the pins to the front. Except that added another two inches to the four inches extra of Pat's - putting the rotovator six inches further back - and the PTO shaft would not extend that much. Furthermore, I could not borrow the shaft off the mower as the rotovator shaft fitted direct to the slip-clutch.

So - new PTO shaft and clutch? new rotovator? ditch Pat's? - I am now fitting stabilisers to the B1750 - photos to follow.

My advice to prospective Pat's buyers - check all your implements (including weights) and shafts and toplinks - Pat's are good when they work, but they are heavy paperweights when they don't.

Bought my first tractor 6 years ago. a BX2200 and started adding implements, a landscape rake, a boxblade and a rear scraper blade. Hated putting the implements on since I did it alone. Discovered Pat's. Became a believer in Pat's. Only thing was upper arm to short but TSC had a longer one for around $20.
Traded the BX2200 to a B7800 and bought a BX1500 so I then needed another set of QA's but not willing to pay that much for another set of Pat's so bought a $90 set of cast iron ones off ebay, not as strong as plated steel like Pat's per my machinist brother in law. Now I'm cooking, got QA's for both tractors. Added a Ferguson overseeder. Still great. Added a tiller and Uh oh! Drive shaft to short! Remove Pat's and make brother help me install tiller the old way. Several trades later I end up with a BX2660 and a BX25 which doesn't even have the 3PH arms. I now have an extra set of QA's. Cheap set slip off and on in a few seconds and Pat's takes several minutes and tools to take off and on. What to do? I sell Pat's and keep cheap set which I've used for several years with no problems. Still can't use QA's with drive shaft implements so since I had the money ($100) from the Pat's sale I ordered a set ($70) that hook on top of the arm instead of behind. Haven't hooked them up yet but when I take my tiller off, I will.

Bottom line, Pat's are great........... but.....upper arm may have to be replaced and drive shafts may be to short. I'm not slamming Pat's, they are a great Kentucky made product but they as everything else have limitations. No, the cheapos don't have the same method of slide locking the top of the implement pin down as Pat's does. I always have to get off my tractor when I hook something up to attach the upper arm and if it has a drive shaft I have to hook the drive shaft so I don't mind sticking the ring or bolt in to lock the implement pin down before someone points out how much better Pat's is because of their slide locking retainer. Usually Pat.
If I were pulling really heavy stuff alot and it didn't have a drive shaft then I believe Pat's will be stronger than the others.

I have the upper set which I purchased either through agri supply or Northern Tool, I don't remember. At the time of purchase, I didn't know there was a difference other than cheaper. I have used them for about 18 months and they have done fine. They came with the adjustable bar to hold the control arms apart, but I cut a piece of PVC which worked better. I have recently bought the telescopic stabilizers like used on the B2630 which hold the control arms apart instead of collapsing in, so that should make the process even easier. I purchased additional washers through PAT's so I have all the implements set up. I found PAT's very easy to work with.

The only implement that I have that uses PTO shaft off the back it my rotary cut mower and the shaft was long enough for it even with the quick connects.

I keep one of these in the tool box just incase the pto shaft on an implement I borrow is too short. Works every time. As far as the top link, I cut mine and welded a piece of pipe in to extend it.

Where did you get the ones that fit on top of the lift arms?

The one thing is see is that in the lower pic there is an adjustable bolt to hold the latch open.. On the upper model it is just a metal tab

If that's the only difference, I'll gladly keep the $20 I saved @ Agri Supply. So far, I'm happy with mine.
