Had TC25D, now JD X310
I currently have units from APC and am looking at TrippLite.

Any experience/recommendations?

I've got both here at the office - don't see much difference - they both work every week when I test the generator.

We have both brands at work (couple of dozen of each), and have almost no problems with either. We usually just go for the best buy. Price Club/Costco is often a good source of bargains (since you save the shipping), and they mainly carry TrippLite. Battery replacement at 2-3 years seems to be the norm. All of the newer models make it easy to do this.

Surge protectors often go hand in hand with UPS systems..

See what you guys think of this:

I bought one, and have had no problems. That doesn't mean it works.. of course.. but they seem to make a good case. What do the more electronically knowledgable of us think of this?

Thanks,
Bob

I've had an APC unit for about a decade and it finally gave up the ghost. I bought a CyberPower 1250 AVR that looked like it did more than the APC's do. My "research" consisted of walking to the shelf at Best Buy and finding one as near the top of the line as I could with approximately the same "footprint" as the APC so it would fit in the same space. Not exactly scientific, but it worked for me. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

We use UPS's (and their cheap built-in surge protection), in-line with high quality surge protectors, to the tune of 700+ joule protection. Nothing can protect you from a close lightening strike/surge, but the more you can add, the more you can keep from having to come into work after a weekend or overnight "problem"/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif It seems to be a trade-off for your area; we tend to protect against the 99% occurence of outages and surges. For the 1% zinger, we'll have to do hands-on recovery/rebuild, and restore from backup, if necessary.

I've had my TrippLite "Internet Office UPS" since 11/23/98 (little over 4 years); still working so far on original battery.

I picked up an APC 1100 at Sams club for a little over $100. It provides around 45 minutes of backup power with 320 Joules surge protection. It is somewhat large but has 6 outlets/RJ45 data jacks/software monitoring.

We have two computers, a multifunction printer, a scanner, camera, telephone/answering machine, computer speakers, joystick, optical mice, and a fancy-schmancy keyboard which all need power and protection.

To do all of this, we have 3 APC UPS's, yes 3!! One large UPS for the network gateway PC and the rest to take care of the other PC and peripheral hardware. Two of the UPS's are smaller units which just provide a little ride through for major power outages. That will allow us time to gracefully shut down our equipment.

Not the perfect solution, but something that helps protect the equipment from natures nagging persistence to disrupt our very important toys!!! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Both brands have nice consumer models. They also have heavy duty models as well. Never beleive the running time a UPS says, First its usually based on 1/2 load and second it based on perfect new batteries and a full charge.
