No. They seem to think their products contain gold in them. I can not believe how many people buy their seed for what they charge:-( In most cases it is because the consumer doesn't know any better. I am lucky, I am in the National Wild Turkey Federation and they have a program where they pay for half the cost of the seed and we pay the other half. Each member is entiled up to 4 bags. We have 3 members in our family so we can get 12 bags a year if we wanted. The seed comes out to about $40 for 20-25lbs which is a lot better then the $9 for 1-2 lb. Understanding what the deer need and what they will eat will help anyone wanting to plant their own feed plots. In most cases you can buy the seed at your ag store in bulk to save money. Each area is different and the NWTF has seed designed for different areas. As far as feeds, Penn State switched to Purina feed about 2-3 years ago as part of a study they were doing. We are planning on heading down there again later this year to see how that study is going. Purina doesn't tell us what % of everything is in their feed and we prefer to know what we are giving our deer so we have not tried their feed yet. Plus the cost is a lot more then what we pay currently and if we want to up the protein level all we have to do is make a phone call. With Purina, we feed what they would give us so it is a gamble. We have thought about doing our own trial with a couple pens on Purina and the rest on our normal feed to see if we can notice any difference in the deers body size or antler development.
