Yes it is horrible here rScotty. The salt and the liquid de-icing agents they use rot everything. And I am constantly chasing green wires and plugs on the big trucks.
And half the time it's not even safe, because they get lazy now and don't plow, they just pour the salt to the highways and it just makes thick slush which is worse to drive on than ice.

That salt is horrible stuff. The highway dept. tried it in here, but there was such an outcry from everyone that a lot of local areas quit using salt. We still do see salt used a little bit in big cities and on Federal highways. but not much. You got to keep on them, though or they'll go crazy with the salt again. Probably a budget thing.
As for plowing, it's pretty good work if you can get it.

I always hit whatever I can with a good stiff wire brush first. I've always used PB Blast, it works alright. If the Blast and some tapping on it doesn't take it off, I move on to heating it with the torch. If that doesn't do it, I do the torch to a cherry red, then melt candle wax into it as it cools. Then walk away until it's cold and whatever it is usually comes right apart. The wax trick was taught to me by a very old mechanic, it really works very well
Edit: Unless I'm working on something like oldgrind is doing up there^. That takes precision, patience, and more patience. Well done!
I also use the torch and candle wax trick, when all else fells.

Some of those foot lbs numbers are crap. Done in in an experiment with good intent, but flawed or at least easily misinterpreted output.

I really like Ave (warning, appropriate salty language for somebody in a shop busting nuts). Bolt Break-Away Torque | Measuring tightening vs. loosening - YouTube & BEST Oil for Rusty Bolts? | WD-40 vs. Secret Sauce - YouTube are great scientific tests. Limited sample size as he acknowledges, but sound. Really like using the osciliscope to measure things. Makes for good relative numbers that you have to think about & can't be easily mislabeled like the other oft quoted numbers that are very misleading.
