so which is best? aerokroil, silikroil, or penephite? i don't think I need the silicone enhanced one, but the graphite one seems interesting.

I've only used kroil.

"My site"? I posted a simple google search results link for Kroil, showing tons of places you can buy it from vs. you're "only one place you can buy it from" comment.

You make an absolute statement, you should be able to back it up absolutely. You failed.

I have been using PB penetrating oil with pretty good success and forgot about Kroil until reading this thread. I'm going to keep my eye open for it and pick some up when I see it. Can you get it at Home Depot or Lowes?

I don't think I'm going to try the mixing it myself approach. Looks like there might be to many issues to deal with if I get it wrong. To me, it's not worth the effort to mess with it.

I love WD40 for cleaning. It gets nasty stuff off my hands better then anything else, and it's also great for getting glue off of glass. Really a great cleaner, but it leaves an oily film, so it has to be cleaned up with windex after using it to remove glues.

Notice Midway USA or almost any decent gun strore will have it. especially if it leans toward gunsmithing supplies. I bought my can years ago, and they last practically forever. You just need one can in your lifetime:)

I can't recall where I bought my Kroil but it was in a can and around $10. On the Kroil website posted earlier in this thread I see they now have a spray can and a deal if you buy one of anything they give you a second of your choice for free. That's a deal and I'm on it.

WD40 is good for common things. But, if you are working and tugging on something , PH Blaster is better and what I go to because Kroil is expensive. For something serious that I might work on tomorrow or later, I'll put a drop of Kroil on it and when I get around to the job the parts will likely come apart. That's where Kroil works the best for me. If Kroil were lower priced and more readily available I would use it more frequently.

For example, I have a part with two 1 3/4" set screws threaded into cast iron and a sort-of blind end access on one side. It is not coming apart without a struggle or snapping off when I get around to it in the spring. So, I put a drop of Kroil on the one end and did the best I could on the other end and I'll put another drop on it in a month or two or maybe both. Come spring those parts will almost certainly come apart. Kroil "wicks" into parts.

My best luck has been with Kroil, PB blaster, Aerosol applications are handy.

The 50/50 mix of acetone and atf is just as good far as I can tell and the stuff I generally have the most of... Just minus the ease of the aerosol application is only drawback.

I had a lot of hole drilling to do in some thick steel bar. I mixed up some of the ATF -acetone and it worked just as good as any high dollar cutting oil ive used.

Best commercial products I've used:

General Motors Heat Riser Lubricant
JB products JB-80 (twice as good as WD40)

Best home made mix: Equal parts diesel/ATF/coca-cola

I have used a lot of Kroil working for the airlines. WD40 failed the salt spray cabinet test and was decertified as a Mil Spec item. No longer allowed to be used on military aircraft. What I found it good for is Cleaning tar off my hands and vehicles  (after driving on a freshly tarred and chipped road) and as a lube when using the lathe. I use PB Blaster and Kroil at home. Yeah, I did get a small supply. ;)

ATF mix
I'm going to give it a try.
Never heard of it till now.
I have had good results with PB blaster and time.
heat and vibration along with PBB.
I always keep a gallon of Acetone in my solvent cabinet and have ATF on the oil shelf.
Easy enought to mix up a small batch when the need arises.
Thanks

Many people say that coca-cola is a great rust-remover. I have heard of people soaking seized chains in them for a week or so and it supposedly cleans them up... so maybe?

Coca-Cola has a small amount of Phosphoric Acid in it, and you are thinking maybe that can help remove rust?. Or perhaps the carbonation bubbles help with the penetration of the product into the threads?. For those of you that have heard about the Phosphoric Acid dissolving a nail immersed in it may want to follow this link for a simple experiment.

ED's Red and Kroil for me never had any reason to try any of the other's.

You can do a search for ED's Red if you don't know how to mix it, many uses.

In grade school we would de-solve cow teeth in coke, they are far from metal though.

I know its good for CAUSING rust, stickiness, gumming and other nuisance when spilled on metal....:D

That is funny because a friend of mine works for a certain helicopter manufacturer. They always used Tri Flow. (Their cans even had a label with a "expiration" date lol)

They were bought out / folded into another company and now all they allowed to use is WD-40, which he said was inferior.

where do you guys all buy this kroil? I have never even heard of it until this thread, and as I said before pb is the best I have used. Maybe I have seen it and never noticed it.
Our NAPA store started stocking it recently.
