And by the way... the log loader in the first post is awesome! Truck that size might not need a locked diff to make it work but... it works obviously.

I think they look dangerous ... I'll pass.

In every one of those videos I've ever seen the user is on the passenger side right by the exhaust, wouldn't you rather be on the driver side away from the fumes and closer to the kill switch?
I wonder if the splitter auger has left hand threads so can only be used on the right? Whatever, I'll pass on that too.

They aren't loading anything but it is bolted to the wheel like the first video.

We used one of these when I was growing up. We cut our wood on a big, unguarded buzz saw mounted on the front of a John Deere A and split most of the wood by hand, although the tough, gnarly, knotty stuff would go through the screw. Oak, ash, apple... it didn't care. It was darn near unstoppable! These days, I prefer my chainsaw and hydraulic splitter. Much less nerve-wracking.

It wouldn't matter what side you put the screwsplitter on... you can put the trans in reverse as easy as forward. However, a manual trans is needed... an auto might not work out so well, would gain too much speed at idle and come to a stop under a load. And I dont want someone hittin the gas pedal while I was splittin wood, I don't care who they are! Now, with a few pullys and some cable to allow a hand throttle for the operator, and a remote kill switch...

A lot of military trucks had drums mounted on the rear hubs that I always assumed were for "pto" purposes.

Notice that the auger in the video was operating in reverse on that S10 pickup. Those auger things don't seem to really work all that well, and it seems to me that there are a lot of things that can go "wrong". As the short video illustrated. At the end of the video it kicked out the "snubbing" ladder and threw it at the cameraman, as well as stalling out the truck, and several times the operator had to put his hand in very compromising positions. So no, I think I would pass on that simple machine.

Running the vehicle in reverse would be one more strike leading toward disaster, it seems to me.

Splitting a truckfull of wood you are naturally going to be working behind the truck. In reverse if it climbs over the chocks it (and maybe the operator or helper) will be jammed into the woodpile. Although throwing that ladder seems equally dangerous. I don't see any way to operate that auger safely.

I wouldn't go near that thing.

Yeah I noticed the video stopped as soon as the ladder got tossed at the cameraman. He was probably hopping around cussing a blue streak.

I've got a wood splitter screw that mounts on my 3-pt auger. Works great for breaking up pieces that are too large to lift. But sloppy splits sometimes. I wouldn't try to make uniform fireplace logs with it.
