I traded in my 1988 Ranger XLT Supercab 4wd with 288,000 miles on it a few months ago for a new car. I had rebuilt the transmission twice and it was in better condition than most 2003 models.
I now have a 1995 F250 diesel and a 2001 F150 gas and both of them have 100,000 miles on them and look and run just like new. I will probably keep them at least 5 more years.
The shortest time I ever had a new vehicle was a 1996 Ranger that got totaled when I got hit head-on by a drunk driver in 1997. I was so impressed with the minor injuries that I had that I bought an identical 1998 Ranger to replace it.
Barring accidents, the shortest time I had a new vehicle was a 1982 Bronco that had a defective noisy standard transmission from the factory that I could never get fixed. I kept it 4 years till I got the 1986 Ranger.
