wondering about something here, you know how the metal used in a pole barn has the raised ribs in it, well, where the metal attached to the skirt board, there will be those ridges every 9 inches or so, what do you people do to keep pests from getting in the building by going through these ridges? Im ready to order siding tomorrow, but am thinking twice now as i dont want any unwanted guests coming in through these spots?

Mine is sealed with a spray foam insulation. You can purchase it in small cans and go around the inside of the building and seal up each opening.

There is all sorts of trim to cover those edges, and you sure want it if anything you want to keep could come in contact with that knife edge...

I've been thinking about doing that in my shop. Those ridges sure let the critters in (especially the little furry ones). I'm either going to have to get a barn (shop) cat or go with the foam.

About how many linear feet of siding does one of those spray cans do?

There is a trim piece, I believe called 'rat guard', that I purchased for along that bottom edge when I sided the pole barn, and it is similar to the 'j' trim if I remember correctly.
Otherwise, a neighbor cut small squares (4" ?) of 1/4" hardware cloth, and rolled them like a cigar and slipped them into each opening. His thought was that the ants would eat through the foam. But, I don't know that would happen.

Rat guard is the trim that is used.

I don't know if the foam-in-a-can will be different from rigid foam insulation sheets. I saw some foam (with foil covering) that was like an ant farm, from mice burrowing through it..............chim

It will hold alot of dirt and cause rust. There is also some shaped like an "L" that works well. Any place that sells panels should also handel trim.
