Varmint-Cong BWAHAHAHA Im stealing that.

Yep, Jack Danials terrier is a jack Russel. They are like a little guy with 100 proof muscles /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We had a blended one that was old. She had about 3 teeth in her head and would go down the hole after VC and haul them out by the nose.

You can never get rid of them, but you can get to a controlled population. Hammer them in the spring and you cut out the birthing season. If you get holes in the fields and when they are destroying creek banks, that is about the best way. If you just like to hunt them, then wait till the hay is down. The population will be more stable.

I finally got that sly one in my back barn, had to resort to a CONABEAR 160 trap and still had to wait 5 days & seal all but one hole with glass, coat hangers & rocks before getting that bugger. it was a female with signs of young too boot so I think I may have cut the population down by at least 6 this spring. has been a while since geting one and I'm having some vision problems with my shooting eye ( some sort of macular degeneration or something?) so I'll have to resort to any method possable for now. also note getting that thing out of the trap was a BEAR as that NEW trap was near impossable to set in the first place. also these traps are pretty humane as far as traps go, they will flatten & fold up just about anything that gets in them including pets so make sure if you use one of these to keep the trap covered or pets away or both. (I placed a barrier around the opening of the hole with the trap across it.) this way no cats or dogs could get in near the set trap. the other holes covered in left it only one way out.

Spiker we had a 110 conabear set in the pond to nab a muskrat. Instead we got a free dinner as a bass decided to try and swim through it. He was still alive when I got to the trap but it messed up his tail so I figured what the heck. Fish and chips! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've trapped many when I was a kid,,using those old fashined steel traps,,the kind like they use on beavers and muskrats,,,you bury it a tad, right in front of his hole,,got to stake the trap down,,and a course a little bait wouldn't hurt,,,,got to be watch full though,,dogs/cats etc may get caught also,,and a ground hog in trap to long will naw his caught foot off,,,but these traps were the original,,,"live trap",,,thingy,,,

Like LTMC said I have never had trouble with a well adjusted live trap and a cut apple not even had to worry much about scent but I guess on a wiley one you may want to boil it and wear rubber boots and gloves. Like an oven or a pot don't bother it. Look once a day and from afar.

Whoa, Delaware? I live in New Castle County!
If you or an acquantance want someone to administer "high-speed lead poisoning", I'd be thrilled to do it for you--while there are *HORDES* of groundhogs up here, places to hunt them are few and far between.
Which is to say "I don't know any."
I'm a very courteous and conscientious fellow who would leave no trace and make darned sure that he had a suitable backstop; I even have a hunting license, though that's not necessary to hunt 'chucks in DE. (At least, that's what the guy at Dick's said.) Best of all, unlike most hunters, I don't swill beer in the field, either.
Like I said, if you're interested, I'd love to put a dent in the local groundhog problem.
