Which PETA are you talking about? ...... Oh, THAT PETA.

Nothing new about that. Lying is SOP for THEM.

I was concerned you might be talking about the PETA that I belong to: People for the Edible Treatment of Animals.

ABout two years ago some female came in to a meeting for a area town that has a gopher count. Yep you trap a gopher and keep the legs and bring them in for the gopher count. This festival brings in may people from all over the area. This lady was upset and ranted and ranted about how cruel this was. After about ten minutes of this one of the council people got up and basicallly told her she was a hypocrite. Yep this lady had leather pants on and a doberman pincher outside that had it's tail cut and ears snipped. She basically was railroaded out of town. Now for the gopher count, not many people bring the legs in anymore as this was a festival started many years ago when the gopher population was overwhelming and the county and state paid so much for the legs to help out. In fact, when I was younger in another county back in the early 60's I was paid a buck for a pair. That was good money for a 10 year old kid. I stayed at my grandma's farm and trapped morning and night. I think I made over a 100 bucks that year. Gee that doesn't seem like much anymore.

You know guys, I've been trying all day to avoid this post.....

Couldnt resist anymore and just have to add my opinion of these miguided morons.

Feeling better already.... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

It seems that the older I get the more I notice people who jump on any bandwaggon they can find just to get in someones face. They do not understand the issues they confront and are apparently just looking for an argument(this is the ignorance factor mentioned earlier)... If you begin to enlighten them they become more intense and act like a 2yr old child ignoring you (LA-LA-LA-LA-LA).As a mater of fact, I believe that most of them are young kids looking for a cause... They do mean well I'm sure, but wont do the research to see the facts.

Ok, feel better.....Thanks for listening.. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

( Sometimes too much formal education removes people from the realities of what really happens in the world.)

As Lewis Grizzard use to say, people educated beyond their common sense. I think that applies here....

Like HGM, I have been avoiding this one as well. The PETA group, and others like them, get me spun up at times. I believe too they mean well, but, I think it's mostly for attention and trying to fit in.

I thought the comment from the organiser talking about people being nearly nude was odd. It appeared to me the attention was being drawn more to themselves than their "cause".

And as far as seeing nude PETA people, this does not interest me at all. It's hard to tell some of the girls from the boys and vice-versa and those that are girls........ well..... no thanks. There are some things you know you just do not want to see /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I would not discount PETA so quickly. They are a well run marketing group. They are very good at getting news media attention and then members and money.
My wife is a school teacher. She gets unsolicited "lessons" from these types of groups (not sure if it is PETA or others). These are supposed to be lessons in world cultures or history but they paint modern animal husbandry in a very negative light. They even target children with this cute site Same with hunting. On a local level they try to change laws or get new ones passed. They have a cute comic book aimed at getting kids to stop their dads from fishing. They are trying to sway the youth so these kids will support them as adults. A scary well thought out plan.

I work for a pharmaceutical company. We have 24 hour security guards and card access to the building and the labs. These security measures are solely to prevent PETA type trouble. Of course the bill gets passed along to the consumer.

We have an animal use committe. By PETA influenced law it must include "members of the community". These are people with no training nor background in science, animal work nor pharmaceuticals. Yet they have input in our work.

OKay. I'll stop for now. I guess the point is that PETA is not just a bunch of Yahoos. They know what they are doing.

I'm so sick of these people I wish they'd all be reincarnated as livestock! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

When I was teaching at San Diego State one of our research associates was a militant vegan/PETA sort. She used to accost me about wearing murdered cow around my waist and on my feet. Thought I was the only faculty member who was sick of her till one day, while carpooling to a conference with this silly twit raving at the driver for eating a "McDeath Burger," the driver pulled over to the side of a very busy freeway and threw the offender out! Left her right there at the side of the road and drove off smiling! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I dont think anyone is discounting them per say. They are effective at getting attention. The issue is that they are usually distorting the truth or ignoring it all together. The American media swarms on controversy, so they will always be around.. First we need to do something about the media, then most of our issues will go away quietly, the least of wich is PETA.

Morning therapy /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifgota love it.....

The "news" media seems to be getting more like Jerry Springer every day.
