First implement I'm looking at is a PHD. I'm looking at the Woods PHD35, with a 42" bit. Is this too much for the BX 25 or should I go with the PHD25?? Anyone using the PHD35 on a BX??
I have a PHD, Land Pride PD10, for my BX24. It works well and can pull the tractor down, front end up. I think anything big would not work well with the BX 24/25 machine. With the three point up the bore barely clears the ground when you are driving around. Anything larger might pose problems.
42" auger is o.k. There is no reason to go above the hp recommendations on a PHD. A BX is suited for the entry level model of most mfg. If you are going to dig in a true hardpan, I'd recommend the Land Pride PHD15 (PD15?), with the downpressure unit as well as the Pengo auger with carbide tipped bit (6").
I use a PHD25 with a 9" auger on my BX2200 and it is a good match. In fact for the past two days I've been boring hole to plant fruit trees, blueberry bushes and grapevines. i don't believe I could get the unit high enough to clear a longer auger, and I've hooked a rock and drilled it into the ground, sheared the bolts and had to back the auger out with a pipe wrench. Good tool to have though.
In the attachments forum, there was a thread a year or two ago whose title was something like "What Implement Do You Most Regret Buying?" Hands down, the most oft mentioned was a phd. Everyone said they used it very little and it just sat. That is actually true of mine. Unless you are going to make a living installing fence posts, your backhoe will dig your holes for you, and far more.
