PHD gearbox repair or replace?

I bought a used subcompact post hole digger for $150 from Tractor Supply that supposedly needed a new oil seal. When I took it apart I found the top bearing destroyed. Did they forget to install a cup in the top cover for the bearing? The second image shows the damage to the inside of top cover The lower bearing was intact but really loose but the cup looks okay. Is it worth repairing or just buy a new gearbox? It is a SpeeCo digger with Omni Gear phd-46 gearbox.

If the gears are ok it could be fixed by putting a bushing in the cover to hold a new bearing cup. If you don't have a lathe you'll have to get an estimate from a machine shop and compare to the cost of a new gearbox. Those are things I don't know.
