I attached my new PHD for the first time this afternoon, what a job! Can anyone give me advice on the best way to store this thing to where it is not such a pain to hook up to tractor?
I have been told to screw it into the ground a little to hold it up. I think that would encourage rust on the auger, wouldn't it?
Maybe it wouldn't rust enough to matter, but, it's new and i would like to take care of it. The wife doesn't let me buy new goodies very often. If anyone has a picture of a homemade support for a PHD, i would really like to see it. I could hang it from a tree limb but i have children around and i'm afraid it might fall.

Some manufacturers of PHD's make optional stands which specifically fit their implements, and I have seen a few made of landscape timbers and one made of welded drilling pipe, but I unfortunately do not have any pictures of these. I have fabricating one on my to do list, but I still invite a friend over to help me wrestle the beast onto the TPH for now.

Hi Arkie,
I got a new Bush Hog 2102 a couple of weeks ago. What an awkward attachment this thing is. My dealer already had my 9" auger hooked up to it when I picked it up. What I did is strap the auger to a tree with a good quality motorcycle tie down after I unloaded it from the trailer. I was quite surprised at how easy it was to hook up to the 3-point hitch this way.

So what kind did you get, and which auger(s) did you get for it?

My PHD is a Bush Hog brand . They do sell a stand for it but it's $120.00 plus freight. I'm not sure it's worth it if i can build something cheaper. However, my backache thinks it would be./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

So which model Bush Hog? I paid $875 for my model 2102 with a 9" double flight auger. I paid another $175 for a 12" double flight and $30 for the leveling handle, both are still on order.

It's a 2101 model with a 9 inch auger, bear claw tip. It worked great. I never thought of strapping the auger up to the trunk of a tree. I'll have to try that next time. I only have the one size auger right now, I thought the 9 inch would be a good happy medium. Do you think the positioning handle is necessary,i don't have one but thought about getting one.

Hi, here are a couple of ideas, <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.landpride.com/lp/products/pd15_specs.html>http://www.landpride.com/lp/products/pd15_specs.html</A>

I have attached a picture of a heavy duty one, it could be made with 3 legs and so on, depending on your PHD, good for ideas anyway.

If you don't need something as cool as the portable stand in the pic, why don't you just sink a 4 x4 in to the ground and strap the phd to it? I think I'm going to do that when I get a phd.
