I just bought a used 3ph Shaver PHD for $100.00. It needed u-joints and had a sheared woodruff key on the drive gear (easy fix for me). It was mounted on a 20HP Cub 7205. According to the Shaver website it is for a cat 0 and 1 setup. This rig on my 27hp 7275 Cub Cadet does not come off the ground with the 3ph all the way up. I have the upper boom located in the lowest hole also. I am going to modify the lower brace to make it work. What I need is a round about figure as to how high the auger should be off the ground when fully lifted? The auger bit is 32 inches long. I also plan on getting a 9" or a 14" extension for it. So this also needs to be factored in. I was thinking that the tip of the auger should be at least 10" off the ground with an extension on it. Does this seem about right?
TIA, JimR

Well I modified it slightly today to at least try it out. I will need to add a few pieces of steel to the upper end to get the height I think it should be at with a longer auger. I drilled 3 holes with this in less than a few minutes. Man, are these things fast. I can see why they say these are dangerous. I'll be putting the shileds back on before I use this again.

Looks good,
Wish that I could find one for $100. I need one for setting temporary power poles. They have to be 4' deep.

10" might be a little high but the higher the better. I used mine for the first time this weekend and it just cleared the ground maybe 1" but it was 100 degrees outside and we only needed 2 holes so I let it stay that way.

Unit looks heavy duty. Good deal.

This one is the light duty that Shaver Manufacturing makes.

What kind do you have? Usually there are several pivot holes on the boom that will give you a choice to have it be higher or lower to the ground. May want to look at that?

Mine is the cheaper model and only has one hole. I also have it located on my tractor at my lowest hole on the upper link bracket for the 3ph. Looks like I will have to make some small extensions for the upper part. That will be no problem to do that.
