I can access TBN at work all the way down until I click on a thread in a forum. Then I get a "Trying to access a Phishing or malicious site" warning from our internal monitoring software/firewalls/whatever. However, if I Google search for the name of the thread and select the link from the Google search results it takes me in just fine I can read posts, reply etc. What is different? If you navigate to the site from Google search results does the site not load/use a particular advertiser or ad provider?

Thanks,
Charles

Can you tell me which monitoring software your company uses?

I do not know, it is a huge multi-national company. We do use McAfee for antivirus so it is possible we either use a product from them or use their information on which sites are 'black listed' etc.

Just odd that it happens on particular access paths but not others. For instance I navigated back to the News/Feedback forum and clicked on this thread but was denied. I then clicked on your name, looked at your recent posts and could click on the thread name which let me into the thread so I could read/reply.

Where I used to work all forums were banned if they had the word "forum" in the address. But if you can get to a thread through the back door that doesn't make sense if forums are banned. I use McAfee on the computer and it also scans my email and when I open an email from Tractorbynet it almost always puts a banner at the top saying it has "suspicious links" in it.

Mcafee site advisor shows the individual threads as dangerous sites. I can get as far as the individual threads before site advisor goes off. I have to put TBN in the trusted sites list in order to read the threads.

our software at work almost always pops up telling me this site is trying to crosslink and then it disables scripting and modifies the web page.. and then i can go on browsing.

I can't sign on as myself at work. If I do, a message pops up that the site I am trying to use contains malicious content and is blocked. I found that if I access the site as a visitor then the firewall/security software lets me access and read all of the forums. As a visitor I cannot post, but that can wait until I get home. It's not a perfect solution, but ... Only annoying thing is the screen urging me to join keeps appearing as I read.

Shame on you guys for surfing the net when you are supposed to be working. I don't do that, (not since I retired anyway). I wonder how many manhours are burned reading and answering threads on TBN?

i merely keep a window to tbn open while at work and in luls crane my neck over and do soe reading in between waiting for more work to hit the desk.. or having to go out on a site.

when out on a site, i am usually setting for 30m then working for a few checking grade.. then setting some more while the grader works.. etc.

so there is downtime that i am putting to good use.. :)

As of 6:27 PM, 12/04/2013, the total manhours spent on TBN while at workplaces is 1,563,745.

I'm on dialup and you can't believe the trouble I"m having. The one that I can't stand is, I have to wait until all of the adds load everytime I change pages and each time I go back. Keep getting stuff like soundguy posted. The threads not loading all the way and most of the time post quick reply isn't there. I think it's a mess, I have just been going to other web sites more and have no trouble.

Lunchtime is usually eating at my desk and surfing the internet. Slow days are better filled with TBN than clock-watching ;)

Install Firefox with Adblock Plus and NoScript... That will cut out most of the ads.

As we all know, there are quite a few ads on TBN...no problems, since that's what pays for the site.
However, several ads (not just TBN) do try to track viewers (marketing data...nothing evil).
That could be what's causing the OP's problems.
It could also be the cookie TBN adds to your cookies directory.

I've worked at companies that block internet access for sales sites (Amazon was one), forums and social media, etc. That's fine with me since anti-virus and firewall software are not 100% effective and a company intranet can be vulnerable...and the results can be devastating...

many times i notice that it is not tbn itself that makes a security issue.. but one of the adds that sets off the cross site linking issue.
