Nice setup Narcnh!

NY_Yankees_Fan might have an idea there...would be nice if you had a smaller tractor to load the larger tractor... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I need more driveway, so I could justify a sand spreader like yours...and then justify a loader for my bx... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

On your chains, did you remove any cross links? With my B2910 R4s, the chains I received were too long and I had to remove a couple cross links. Had I had Turfs, the tires would have been wider and so perhaps I would not have had to remove the cross links at all. I noticed yours look like they could use [on the right side] an additional cross link to fill that gap at the point where the ends of the chains connect together...

Anyway, I doubt I will need 4 extra spare cross chains. If you measure yours and they are the same length as mine, I could send you a couple if you think you could use them... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ron & Mike,

Yep, manufactured sand. I tried to run regular sand through it (you can see a few bags next to the unit on the ground), in a trial run, but it flowed right out like water - too smooth. Manufactured sand is what all commercial and municipal spreaders use - essentially ground up stone to keep it rough for traction with 4% salt added to keep it loose. Works great and it's cheap (~$120 bucks delivered for 10 ton).

Yeah, I sit on a couple million cubic yards of sand, and I had to buy some. Go figure.

Pete, I plan to build a holding bay alongside the barn this year for the sand that I can cover completely. But, got it delivered mid-winter and had no choice but to have it dumped there. The tarp over it helps a lot, and it has stayed loose.

I originally thought about dropping the spreader and filling it with the bucket, but it literally takes less than two minutes to fill it with a shovel (30 scoops), so it's not a hassle. Not even enough time for my cigar to go out, when I put it down while shoveling. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif BUT, to Tom and Henro's point, it IS a good excuse to get another tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Henro, I THINK I had to take off two cross chains on each side to fit those chains, but maybe not. I futzed around with the front chains before giving up on them for so long that I can't remember which links came off of which chains. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Would have been nice have another cross chain at that gap, but I don't seem to miss it. Going with the 2 link chains instead of the four made a big difference, I think. But, if I ever find the invoice for the size I got, I'll let you know. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

BTW, guys, I had no idea the pics would load so big. For future posts I'll work on getting the size down to something that doesn't need to be scrolled to view. Sorry about that. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Does that spreader work with grass and clover seed too?

Saw on the news last night an area of VT wants to seccede over to New Hanpshire. Are you in that area? We went through the same thing Holland/Brimfield Ma about 18 years ago. It did shake up Boston for a while.. time to do it again.

narcnh -
I've noticed recently with my computer (win98/SE) that larger pictures (when viewed with MSIE) automatically reduce to screen size, and when I view them and place the curser within the picture an icon appears in the lower right corner that allows me to view full size if I want. I'm not sure which "update" did this but I like it. Personally I prefer larger pictures because you generally get better clarity.

Bill

The size of the spreader looks just about right for a BX23 backhoe bucket. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I built a low hopper for a friend that spreads lime with a spreaders similar to yours. It has a hopper that is wide as the bucket and sat up on a trailer. When he would get his lime delivered he would load the hopper with the tractor then back the spreader under it pull a lever and have a full hopper in 12 seconds. It cut his time way down. I think the whole unit was 25 dollars to buld and used alot of common parts.
Does the agitato beat on the sides to or does it self center when it starts up.Id like to build something like that for a lime spreader for the garden.

With regard to the automatic resizing:
In IE6, go to Tools/Options
Click on Advanced tab
There is a choice under MultiMedia
Enable Automatic Image Resizing.
Selecting this will fit the picture to your display size if it is too large

Tom and Bob, ayah, the spreader works with seeds and fertilizers. The plate at the bottom is adjustable. In fact, the grill, agitator and wings are a sand spreader option. In the instructions it says that for very fine seed there is an adaptor that cuts down the size of the opening even more. But, I don't know how good of a job it does with seed. If I ever try it out on my lawn, I'll post the results.

Taylor, the agitaor will and does beat up on the sides of the hopper. I run the unit per the instructions, that is, at around 2/3 normal RPM (~1600-1700). As the hopper empties, the agitator begins to beat on it and I let up on the RPMs a little. It's pretty heavy duty, but someday I'll have to take advantage of all the info I got off of that welder thread to weld on some scuff pads.

Lamar, that's the area over by Killington that's fed up with the tax system in Vermont. I'm just over the river in New Hampshire. In fact, in the last pic of the drive, on the other side of the Connecticut River is Vermont.
