Re: Let\'s twist again, like we did last summer!

Its only reccomended by those trying to sell them. Use of one will void your warranty if that matters. Most important to most folks I would think is the cost, followed by safety, followed by the cost of repairing your tractor. If you need/want a back hoe just buy the appropriate machine. I am no orange fan but there is about ZERO comparison between the Kubota BX and the JD 2210 including JD's aluminum transaxle. Just my opinion, I guess I just dont get it ! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Docsknotinn,

I see you own a JD2210 but make a disparaging comment about an aluminum transaxle. I'm about a day away from buying either a JD2210 or BX2230. Why did you still choose the JD 2210?

Re: Let\'s twist again, like we did last summer!

Its not a negative comment its just a fact. The BX was built from the ground up to handle a BH and the JD was not. The only reason we see this stuff is that its profitable for aftermarket manufacturers to sell. That does not make it wise for the consumer or cost effective. If you want or need a BH dont go smaller than a 4110 or equivelant. Thats my opinion. I went with the JD for several reasons. First the orange dealers in my area were lousy. The BX was more expensive and it didn't fit me nearly as well. I also like how the JD is set up like a car with the go pedals on one side and the brake on the other side. I did not like the Kubota pedals. Kubota does have a better warranty ( 3 years Vs 2 ) but I still liked the JD better. I would not choose either the BX or the 2210 if a BH was on my list of implements. I think many others will echo the same view. Its like trying to get a mini van to pull 20,000 lbs instead of buying a 3/4 ton diesel. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: Let\'s twist again, like we did last summer!

I guess the question I need to bring up is...
How often are you planning to use the backhoe?
I am a recreational digger /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif LOL.
In other words, I have no intention of putting one on and using it daily. I plan to dig the foundation for my future garage and other odd jobs. I.E. planting bushes, trees and such maintenance repairs around my home. I have not seen this unit attached in real life and can not judge how strong anything is but I do prefer the Woods. It looks like a much better design after seeing PDe put the Woods on his (TBN subject "Arrived! 2210 Backhoe").
The Wallenstein does not look like it attaches very well at all.

That is where I fall in the range of Backhoe interests.

Re: Let\'s twist again, like we did last summer!

The embmfg website now shows the 2210 with a GX500 backhoe mounted on it. It appears smaller and lighter than the 600 but you can’t tell if the mounting has changed…

I e-mailed John Deere and they simply told me they were not a technical service contact, that I should instead contact my dealer. Go figure! This was to ask whether 3 point hitch BH was acceptable, and about warranty.

Wallenstein GX500 is pretty small. GX600 is more acceptable. The sub-frame is rather un-inspired for the 2210, as opposed to how Kubota has done it on the BH23.

Anyone has a link to Woods BH? I did not find anything suitable for the 2210.

BTW, if you power the BH off the 2210 hydraulics, where do you put it! Assuming you've got an SCV for the loader, there's nothing left. Attaching it to the SCV and locking the lever to one side seems a bit cheap.

An earlier poster on this post, PDe, has the first Woods unit that I am aware of. We are all waiting for his comments as he gets to use this attachment. Meanwhile, I was fortunate enough to meet one fascinating guy a few weeks ago. He posts on another forum, but is the kind of guy that you give a few toothpicks to, and he builds an entire city. Anyway, he has built a homemade BH for the 2210 that is anything but homemade. It utilizes the frame in the same way that the 210 loader does, and through some clever engineering, is a quick-tach unit. I haven't asked for his permission to post pics etc, but I can tell you unequivacally that the 2210 will handle a well designed BH. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thank you PDe & JDFANATIC for the info and link.

1) I went to see a built up kit on a massey fergesson from cdp (Canadian U- Build type kit). It was attached on the CAT 1, but the gentlemen had added two additional bars from the lower points to the upper which soldified the whole thing well. Got to say that these little backhoes have plenty of power to toss the 2210 about (his tractor was twice the weight). Of course the upper point on the 2210 is on the casing, so not a good idea. But then I thought of using the supports for the ROPS under the fenders. After taking a closer look at the Wallenstein GX-600, I realized they did just that! so a 3 point could work with additional bars.

2) The woods is trully awesome, with its beefy sub-frame extensions. Must be costly though.

3) Beginning to think that even a GX-600 is too much for the 2210. The Ubuilt it is equivalent in power and it tossed that tractor today like a feather, even at 3000 lbs, despite the bucket and stabilisers down and lifting the tractor.

4) The woods also indicates by the posted pictures that supply and return pressure is available on the SCV and somewhere on the left side of the case. Wonder if Wallenstein does the same?

5) The Wallenstein and Woods have the BH seat so close to the 2210 seat. Why not build the 2210 seat on a swivel platform with some fore-aft movement and dispense with the BH seat once and for all! Should be an easy do-it-yourselfer.

**** my 2210 is fun with a loader. I need excuses to use it. Maybe my neighbours need some work done...

Cheers

Re: Let\'s twist again, like we did last summer!

LOL, hey I understand your point about being a recreational digger. Me to, I use my FEL ! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I love the 2210 and it will do some amazing things when put to the test. I just wouldn't reccomend buying one for a BH....Now if you already own a 2210 and your warranty is over ! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
