Geese are strange critters. I can't get over how oblivious to cars they are when waddling on the paved roads near ponds and lakes.

mcd176,
Mikeee, Mikeee, Mikeee, slow down there for just a second. No one is stupid when it comes to kids and tractors. What you're seeing are photo ops of proud tractor owners showing off their wives, kids and especially tractors. No harm in that. No different from one of my previous posts showing me "racing an airplane down the flightline." Do you really think I was racing an airplane with a tractor that tops out at 7 mph ? Heavens no. Give it a rest my man. These are staged photos. They're just having a little fun. :) :) :)

Well said!
I agree 100%!

Safety has much more to do with the operator than any number of set ruels.... The rules are there to protect "everyone" and cover the manufactures interests. If I put my daughter on the tractor with me, that's my business. When she does ride, I'm extra, extra aware of everything that's going on. That's part of being a safe operator. Would it be safer to just tell her "no, stay away"? Yes, it would be (and there are plenty of times I do) but, it would also be safer to just leave the tractor in the barn to begin with. That way I could protect myself and property from any harm all together....

Tractors are equipment and not toys, yes, but you can also safely have fun around equipment with children. There are lots of limits to this. Like, not allowing it while you are trying to work efficiently and are concentrating on the job at hand. My children have been taught to "stay away" when daddy's working with equipment and if you have to come get me, stay where I can see you and get my attention before you come in close. This goes for all loud distracting equipment (tractors, mowers, excavator, chain saws, etc). But, in the "down time", why not let your child that's interested, get to know the equipment. It's my job to teach my children everything I can and everything they want to know. If you get them around equipment at an early age, they'll be hooked for life and learn how to operate efficiently and safely while respecting the equipment.

One of the things wrong with this country today is everyone wants to protect everyone else from everything.... Thanks for the concern big brother, but I can handle it myself. Now, if you want to keep your children, everything and everyone away from your tractor all the time, that's fine for you, but don't tell me how to operate and/or raise my children.

Calling people stupid, just won't get you anywhere....

I agree 100%. It is tragic when accidents happen in situations when the judgement of the adult is at fault. How could anyone live with the fact that they were responsible for the death or severe injury of one of their children or grandchildren or neighbors children. Realizing this still doesn't stop me because I think I consider what could happen and either take steps or to prevent tragedy or make the decision not to do it.
Under the right conditions I let my grandchildren ride in the bed of my truck, ride on my tractor and ride with the van slidingdoor open.
I have made a tire swing with no padding on the ground to protect them in case of a fall. I let them swing on the home made swings and go as high as they want to. They ride little gasoline powered ATV's. When they can handle it i'll let them learn how to shoot and hunt. There is a tremendous amount of danger in each of these activities and I've heard of deaths involving each of them. The danger can be reduced by the adult with the proper training and decisions being made.
My grandchildren haven't ridden in the FEL but only because they didn't want to when I asked them.

Just My opinion , But I think the ones that have the Problems with teaching your kids & enjoying the together time while learning the diffence between right & wrong & safety on or around any type of vehicles , Obviouslly Weren,t raised on or around a farm .

When I was growing up as a lot of You probablly did ,If You were old enough to walk & talk You did whatever you could to help out & taught ways the new generations cant even begin to imagine .

Wether it being operating farm equipment , Plowing , disking , cutting , Milking cows , Running the wheat trucks in the feilds , or getting the ole gun out & getting supper .

I did & was expected to do that type of stuff before I was 10 years old, & enjoyed every minute of it . I had My first ceegar & drink of liquer before I was 12 . & never touched either again till years later  .

Sorry I guess I was raised in a really bad envirement . So I can understand why folks these days are so concerned with raising their kids , While getting Spoiled with, Fancy toys , video games , cell phones, & all the other fancy toys the parents cant live without paying with it with plastic or money they aint even earned yet , therefore teaching their kids the same things . Gota love that 0 % intrest  .

Its not really that hard to figure out who,s who, by reading the replys in most of these threads . But then again , I was working when a lot of you were being schooled . so Excuse my lack of grammer skills .

Where I come from , if You cant pay cash for it , you dont need it & shouldn,t buy it . Its a shame others cant learn that , Because the rest of us pay for it in the long run . Sorry, I recon I,m getting off topic to far . Just putting in my 2 bits. Bob

That's just it... We've come to far too fast and it seems the people making the decisions for the county are out of touch with reality. They don't know what hard work is and the great pride one has from doing a little bit of hard work and looking back on the results. Way too many sissy's as far as I'm concerned.

We need to get back to the state of mind we had a few decades ago. When real men did a real days work for an honest pay check. When kids were taught right from wrong. They played outside from sun up to sun down instead of sitt'n in the house playing video games watching TV and wait'n for mommy to come home. Families sat down at the kitchen table and ate dinner together talking about their day. I could go on and on, but you all get my point. I try to raise my small family this way, but it seems more and more I'm a minority. People just seem too busy these days and have lost sight of the important things in life. Seems to me we need to get back to reality, but maybe I'm wrong...

Getting up in the morning involves risk..

That's life!

The kids look like they're having a blast riding in those tractors! More pictures!

Good points, I can relate to the growing up on a farm situation. Had an uncle with no children, whenever he came to our farm all he could do is talk how dangerous it was to have us kids doing various jobs. Sure there was risk involved but we always tried to be cautious. There were eight of us and we all made it through OK.
Now lets get back to those tractor pictures!
