It does. It is not as good as a dedicated unit but for me it was a good trade with my semi-perminent mount bucket. I did add some teeth to the grapple fingers to give it more bite. I cut some short pieces of 1/2" rebar and welded them on. You can see them in this picture I think.

Using the bolt on grapple is hard to see what you are picking up?

I am sure the bolt on grapple has some uses and can be helpful but it in no way can do what a dedicated grapple can do, so it's not really comparing apples to apples. I use my grapple first and foremost in clearing land, ripping out small trees and saplings by uprooting them. There is no way I could do that with a bolt on. It just depends on what useage you need. ( I am not cutting down the bolt on as I am sure it works well for picking things up like those logs)

It is hard to see. But it is no different than using the cutting edge of your bucket which you cant see either. After a while you get a feel for it and just know what angle and height your bucket has to be in to do what you want. Like I said, it is a trade off you have to make. It is plenty strong though. One of the big plusses for me is that I can go out to work and use either the bucket or grapple, switching back and forth as necessary. I have them both there and ready all the time.

If THIS is your fel's bucket then THIS might be the just the ticket for you, perhaps powered with THIS. (Scroll to bottom, look at 700-5032-4080 )

The loader pictured has the quick attach. My loader does not have the quick attach.

Unlimited Fabrication made mine pin-on. rootgrapple.com

Per their web page the smallest grapple they make is 60". I think a 48" will meet my needs. I think I will email them anyway just to see if they have a smaller grapple that is not pictured.

More research: I can buy a Wild Kat 48" econo grapple with no connectors and no quick attach hook ups for $500 plus shipping. If I go this route I will have to pay a fab shop to cut and weld brackets to work with my loader. Another option is a WR Long 48" grapple with the correct pin on plates for $1400. Any thoughts?

Shouldn't cost much to get the plates welded on. If you get 'dual grapples' on your grapple, you can see between them when you're driving around, plus better grab-ability..

It all depends on your mindset. The grapple is the greatest, it doesn't matter how you install one you will never regret it
