Pipe smoking

My dad always had a brier in his mouth.
I used to do some drafting for him, many years ago.
The rare times when I smell straight Cavendish takes me right back to those days.

Now some of "Bear Blend" in a brand new MM (cob) pipe..they both were delivered today. Good stuff.

If you're new to "piping"...good quality corn cobs are hard to beat...and they're hard to beat anywhichwise. I've got a number of briar pipes, which I like, but mm corncobs are always great, and very affordable.

Here's my favorite (I prefer the "bent bit"):

Country Gentleman Corn Cob Pipe | Country Gentleman Smoking Pipe | Country Gentleman Pipe

Get one..as your budget allows, get more. Good stuff.

A few years ago I ordered 5lbs each of Lane's 1Q and Lane's Very Cherry not realizing how much 5lbs was. The Foodsaver got put to work and happy to say that it is as fresh today as when I got it. We have a new member in our "club" and he was the happy recipient of a pouch of each. Yesterday I got the torch out and made a few tampers from 16p common nails. Use a vice grips, get the point cherry hot and flatten it on an anvil to form a blade. Then grind a knife edge and wire brush the entire nail.

I enjoyed the smell of the apple pipe tobacco my father smoked when I was a kid. Pipe smoking may be relatively safer than cigarettes, but that's like saying playing Russian roulette with only 1 bullet in the cylinder is safer than with 3.

40 years of smoking turned his lungs to basically fiber. Sure, he didn't have any black deposits of crud in them, but he still had emphysema and COPD for the past 10 years which killed his doing many of the things he loved to do, as well as chopping his muscle tone and bone density. And he never told us, but he also had stage 4 lung cancer. Not even the morphine could cut the pain. When he passed, he was skin and bones, with too many lumps and nodules all over his body.

All because he smoked.

Better to be captured by Al Qaeda and tortured to death. At least they work faster and more humanely than tobacco.

Was your father older than you? Was he of sound mind when he lit his pipe? Did he enjoy it? If the answer to those is yes, then quit spouting the junk science that surrounds tobacco. It is only that. Have a nice day.

 Good grief. As for those 10lbs of 'baccy teejk, yeah that is a LOT. I smoke a pipe or two probably an average of every 2-6 weeks, depending on when the mood grabs me. That would be about 824 years worth for me, I'm guessing. (unless Al Qaeda got a hold of me first :D).

Good idea for the tampers, I've got 4 and can never seem to find one without a whole-house search. :confused2:
