Planting a new lawn... Help

Great info here and I have similar thoughts about going the Harley rake route.

I have several grasses but this is the main one and I can't identify it. I thought it was centipede until I spread some of that seed on a bare area.

Does anyone recognize this grass?

I wanted to bump this to see if anyone can identify this grass. I'm back in the "I think it is centipede" camp :laughing:

Yep I agree; looks more like bermuda grass than centipede.

Does it go dormant (turn brown) over the winter?
My bermuda does. I've another lawn with centipede and it stays green.

When soil temperatures drop to between 50 and 55 degrees Fahrenheit, Bermuda grass goes dormant, turns brown and appears dead.

He's east of Atlanta, GA. May or may not go dormant?

It goes dormant.

The Bermuda grasses I've had over the years has a much narrower blade. I'll attach another picture, I have some Bermuda in the back yard.

I cut out a square yesterday and brought it by the county extension office.. They emailed me this morning and said it is centipede.

Most of the blades are folded (might be a little dry) so didn't recognize it.

No problemo, I appreciate your help. One thing I learned from a handout they sent is that I've been mowing this way too tall.

Proper mowing is also very important
to maintaining healthy, attractive turf. Mow
at 1 to 1ｽ inches.

Local expert said spray with roundup, wait 2 weeks then till. Tried that, and if doing it again, I'd spray, then spray again after the first 2 weeks, then till. I had a lot of weeds come up after the first 2 weeks.
