Plastic poly tanks used for fuel?

Ditto on the totes if you cannot find a used tank.

Around here, MANY people use the IBC totes. Which also makes the cost of used steel tanks near dirt cheap too. So around me, whatever you want is usually pretty cheap.

I didn't think the IBC totes were rated for fuel?

Probably not, thats why they are cheap. I wouldnt use them for gas, but they are commonly used to transport oils and chemicals. I dont see diesel being an issue.

I use old 5gal hydraulic oil buckets for diesel fuel all the time. I dont suppose they are rated for fuel either.

Where you at? I have about 30 fuel tanks for sale. 300 gallon steel tank, 12v pump, meter, hose, and nozzel for $500 550 gallon with the same setup is $600 1000 gallon with same setup is $875 All located in Indianapolis 3 miles off I70. Chris

What other tanks do you have? I'm looking for a 100-150 gallon tank.

I thought about one of the totes, my wife's brother farms and has about 100 setting behind their shop. He does not recommend them, says they start to breakdown and get chalky after setting in the sun for a few years. He has a fuel tank he will give me but it is a 2000 gal, just slightly bigger than needed but tempting. There is a guy selling totes for 100 bucks apiece just south of me claims his do not breakdown, maybe his is of a better grade of plastic.

I am about 400 miles from Indianapolis. Are these new? $600 for a 550 gal and pump seems like a smoking deal compared to what I am looking at. I have found one used 500 gal tank with water and oil in it (rusty inside) and they are stuck on $500 and I get keep the oil and water to dispose of.

No used. All were cleaned, painted, inspected, tested, and stored 1.5 years ago. We are going away from keeping fuel on site to just a delivery system.

Just 300 and 550 gallon ones. Sold all our 1000 gallon tanks this week.

It's a bit of a pain handling 5 gallons at a time but I use genuine Wavian mil-spec steel jerry cans. Nothing permeates out of the fuel like it does if stored in plastic and no potential moisture issues.

If the tank isn't rated for fuel use, then it's not capable of handling fuel, period, end of story.

A yellow, 5 gallon diesel jug you pay $15 for is made out the same polyethylene material [and much thicker] as a 275 gallon IBC tote.

Nice thing about the semi truck fuel tanks one could easily find at salvage yards... they are aluminum. No rusting issues. Except in rare cases, they all have drain plug in one of the ends that works great for installing a fuel filter and hose setup. Put on an elevated base, and it would do a great job as a gravity feed fuel tank. Generally, one can get them up to 150 gallons.
