Calvert Cliffs is about an hour west. You're not commuting in from Martinsburg, are you?
Besides, commuting into DC you might not be as far away from nuclear stuff as you would think.

Steve, I'm only about 20minutes from Calvert Cliffs ,its south of me as I live in calvert county ,but I'm not supposed to be in the danger zone if anything BAD should happened /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Tlbuser, I'm very familiar with port tobacco as I spent some time there as a young'in with family friends that had a boat, I can barley remember the slot machines at the RESTUARANT(bar) from those outings... I also lived in Chuck County for 15yrs as an Adult before we found our little patch of ground in Calvert.

I'm commuting from Shepherdstown to DC. And as far as the nuclear stuff, I'm not too sure if you could get far enough away and I guess it would depend alot on the wind too!
Anyway, I just remember hearing her talk about it. It seems like she said that she lives within listening distance of some warning horn or something.
I meant to put the chains on before the snow got here this year. Oh well, I guess we aren't getting enough snow to warrant chains yet.

Riptides, we're in the same neighborhood. Looks like we're gonna get to play on our "toys" tomorrow, while the kids play on theirs. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well, about all those SUVs going off the road. Around here where we get enough snow for people to know better, it seems the most common accident is going off the highway at some random semi-straight section. I think that most of them have those nice wide mud tires on them. The problem is when you hit slush with those tires and going more than 20 you are going to hydroplane. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I don't mean maybe, sure as death and taxes you're going off the road. Anti-lock brakes only help if the tires are at least touching the road! People must assume that since they are on relatively dry road at the moment, that it will stay that way until they run out of paved road. So they get 'er up to about 60, then hit slush. Did I mention that at 20 you WILL hydroplane with mud tires! I've been driving lessee about 37 years in this stuff, and I've been off the road once. I'll repeat that, I've slid off the road once in 37 years, and I was still in college when it happened. Thanks for listening, I feel better now! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

On the bread thing. Again, 6" snowfalls in upstate NY are nothing to write home about. However, if there's say 4" or more predicted, and you get to the store 4 hours before it is supposed to hit you won't find any bread or milk, and maybe the beer will even be depleated. Oh, you may find a loaf that fell off the shelf, and got stepped on, and a leaky milk carton... But sheesh folks, we have the technology to clear the roads. I can understand the folks down south getting a bit nervous, but we go through this all the time.

{getting off soapbox}

Mike, I hear you. My wife was a manager of a large grocery store in the area for many years (Giant Food) till she recently retired (Thank GOD!!). You wouldnt believe the things people do in a grocery story when there's a snow scare. I could never understand the logic of people in general. Very sad. Agreed, we have the technology, and roads will be clear in a few hours/days. Exceptions being some of the more severe N'oreastern storms.

I'll be in Warrenton tonight for a BOS meeting. Will someone there have milk, bread, TP and beer for me? The meeting starts at 7pm and the snow warning starts at 6pm.

I am worried because of that "golden hour".

The snow is coming your way, We already have four inches and it is still snowing hard. The wife is home early from teaching school, they let them out early when it hit this level. The roads are getting treacherous, as there is ice under the snow. The journey home might be an experience, be careful! Tomorrow is Black Powder deer season, the snow is going to make for an interesting hunt. Keep your powder dry! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here is what I don't understand. We've got a "Heavy Snow Warning" in affect. At first they were predicting 2 - 4 (when this was issued) now it is 3 - 5 - in some places. Since when did 2 - 4 inches of snow constitute heavy snow? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
