Plow with BoxBlade??

   / Plow with BoxBlade?? #21
I have used a box blade as a plow myself, although it does work, I have found that in the rocky soul that I have the teeth tend to ride over too many of the rocks. That being said, I priced out a subsoiler and for the money I decided to build a ripping bar my self.

With that ripping bar I have done numerous projects from breaking new ground for a garden to breaking down hills around my property. I wish that I had made the teeth removable as I can't use it as a true subsoiler because of the 3 teeth with out making a mess.. But with a back blade and the ripping bar (I call it) I can do a huge amount of work with my little 35 horse l275 kubota, and I have turf tires on a 2 wheel drive. I will put it on the tractor and post some pictures when I have a chance. this is the result of the "ripping Bar".

Great job with the RIPPING BAR, 'wizard. I cannot make a device like that so will have to make do with what I have or can get later. Looks like your bar will turn soil somewhere between a subsoiler and a breaking plow.

I gave the box blade a try and liked the results. The box blade turned the soil enough that my disc will do well, especially after the rains we got today. The pictures below show
1) One of the areas I wanted to break up
2) The box blade in action.
3) Some of the area after the first pass

Since the grass had grown a bit before I worked it, I did have some problems with it clogging up. On the second pass I tried something a little different. It seemed to clog the most on the ends, so I disengaged the two rippers on the ends.

lakngulf, it is kind of a cross between a middlebuster or potato plow and a subsoiler. I haven't found a unit quite like it but if anyone has any ideas how to improve it plz let me know.

I don't know your exact setup but with a shorter toplink, you can get more penetration. More weight may help as well. I also run over it at 90 degrees. If your rippers are 16", you can get 18" replacement shafts. Check Agg. Supply.

We had almost two inches of rain last Saturday, a part of the system that caused such damage in some parts of the South. I changed over from boxblade plow to disc to cut the soil a bit more. I waited a little too long after the rain, but got some pretty good results.

Bad part is that I have a day job, and glad to have one in this economy. So, I had to use my lights and run the disc at night. I plowed til about 9:30pm last night and the disc worked very well on the soil that I had broken with the box blade. Still needs more work, after next rain.

While working at night was not ideal, there were some pluses: (1) seat time is seat time, no matter when (2) my lights work great (3) on a long stretch turn of the lights and the stairs are absolutely beautiful in the dark country
(4) About 8pm or so, the full moon came rising over the trees, what a sight.

Oh, and my Mom brought supper to the field so I could save some time. She used to bring lunch to the fields when we worked the farm, but it has been a long time, and she said that was the first time to bring supper.
