Yanmar SA425
So I do not have much experience using a snow plow; bought one a few months ago. Yesterday put it use, learning and getting used to it. Worked reasonably well with the loader in the float mode on our concrete pad and gravel driveway. Equipment - Yanmar 6' front blade with skids on a '23 SA425 tractor in 4WD.

Depending on the plow, Float is not the way to go. Is this a custom made plow with a hanging chain (like on pickup trucks) to create plow float, or is it mounted solid causing you to use the Float on the tractor arms?
With tractors, it does take a bit of learning to get the 'bucket tilt' set correctly.
Stone driveway.... even more critical than blacktop/concrete. Gotta finesse it until you get a nice compacted snow base or you will continue to rip up the stones.

SA series standard 6’ Yanmar blade, 5-position manual angle adjustment and the loader valve/arm has a standard float function.

Ok, so no float on the plow itself, from what i saw..
I'm surprised you didn't dig in on the stones when using the Float on the tractor. Good job

Plows, on tractors do not clean the driveway as well as a truck. Its just the nature of the beast. You have the Curl on the bucket that you dont have on a truck. That throws of the plows angle if not curled to the correct position.

That is a really good job in my book. Especially considering it is your first. What are you using for skids ? They look to be working well.

Darn nice job done (y) couple more storms of plowing will become second nature.

The snow blade is this one. Skid shoes are illustrated in the product page.

Another snow removal attempt a couple of days ago. Tractor in 4WD with engine at ~2000 rpm, transmission in low and loader in float mode. No strain on the blade or tractor.

I can't really tell from the pictures, but does the plow have a trip? That's more important than how it floats (although I would rather have the plow blade float than the loader arms). If it doesn't trip, it will plow fine until you accidentally hit something and then the loader arms will be bent.

See post #7 for details (use link) on the snow blade. It does have a trip function.
