Plowing 1/2 mile driveway with a UTV. Should it be done?

I was the first in my area to have an ATV with a snow-plow(1998) an Kawasaki Prairie 400(belt drive).
I still have the machine but gave the plow to my SIL(has a 2000 Prairie).Atv's/SS will move a lot of snow for sure.
I would not put a plow on any Honda with their automatic transmission.
We now run all Yamaha products,Rhino,Viking and Grizzly and had great luck with them.My BIL has a Viking set-up with a plow and cab and he really likes it.

The Boss V Plow on a side by side looks terrific for those great big snows. We are really close to purchasing that Northstar Ranger.....and when I do I am fairly certain I will be buying a Boss V Plow. They look great. I was zipping around town all day yesterday on my Ranger hitting driveways. One thing that did happen to me early in the morning is I snapped my synthetic winch cable. I had ordered a pully for it to keep that from happening but it didn't come in. So I went to rural king and bought a boat winch strap and put that on my winch and it seems to be holding up great.

Really? I haven't heard much negativity about the Pioneers. I was dead set on a Polaris until I drove a few and read about all of the issues (granted the ones I drove were much older).

I know they're not as fun, but the more utilitarian brands tend to get the beat reviews.

After spending $12-25K for such a toy (however much fun), why would any fool say anything bad about them? Big Boy Toys cost a fortune and can do amazing things and if you can afford them, why not? Why bother with a plow set up when your Dad has a plow and tractor?

He has is own plowing to do (1/4 mile drive of his own plus a few clients). My wife and I would prefer to be able to get cleared out when needed. Bigger storms or if on a weekend, sure, my dad can come by and take care of it, but it's nice to not have to rely on that at all times.

Don't for get to look at the CanAm; they make great stuff. They have a nice utility UTV holds 6 and has a bed for around the price point you mentioned. When I do buy a UTV I'm pretty sure I'm going CanAm or Kawasaki. Just personal preference though; many good makes out there.

To the OP: By your username, do I guess you are in PA? A friend in Maryland may be selling his three plow trucks. All maintained and ready to work. Could be good option for you for a shorter dollar.

PM for details if interested.

Good point. Being self sufficient is a good thing and allows you to help others. I have a plow truck, a small walk behind blower, a tractor and a 36" snow blower on a troy bilt garden tractor. The garden tractor is the most fun to blow snow with. If I could afford it, I would get rid of all of them and get a front mount snow blower for the tractor.

Speaking of CanAm, have you seen the new six wheeler? It's a monster.
