How much tractor will I need to use my 2-bottom 14" plow?

Would an L3200 be enough?

I'm looking at L3200s and L3800s, and I know the 3800 would be better, just wondering if I could get by with the 3200?

The 3800 is about $2,000. more than the 3200...

The old Ford 8n's were supposed to pull 2x12's. A L3800 probably will not pull much better than a L3200. They both weight about the same just the L3800 has more power. Be sure you check prices at at least 2 or 3 dealers. If you go with the L3800 you will never regret having the extra power.

My operators manual has a section for implement limitations. Check the dealership for your model. L3240 & L3540 rated 2x12". L3940, L4240, and L4740 rated 2x14". L5040, L5240, & L5740 rated 2x16". As 94Bullitt stated, this has allot to do with weight, traction, soil type, condition and type of plow, then horsepower. Philip.

:)i PULL A SINGLE BOTTOM MOLD BOARD PLOW WITH A B2320. It's like it isn't back there unless I hit a tree root. It goes thru telephone, cable and other wiring buried just under the surface like they to aren't there on my rental property.:ashamed:

A 3200 or 3800 shouldnt have much trouble pulling a 2x14 provided ag tires and load the rears. A FEL would help too with adding weight over fronts, but wouldnt be necessary. An 8n would pull 2x14'x in most conditions. The kubotas weight about the same but are 4wd.

The power will only help pulling if you are pulling at hyper speed. THEN the power would help. But if you plan on doing other things with the tractor, like ever running a tiller, rotary cutter, etc. then you wont regret the extra power.

Thanks Guys!

Maybe I'll just keep my 861 Powermaster to plow with.. I was thinking about selling it to help offset some of the cost of a new or newer Kubota.

But it probably wouldn't bring much, and it's kinda like an Old, Loyal Dog - one that I'm still quite fond of

Thanks, LD1... I think you helped me decide on the 5hp more on the L3800. (The wife will just have to work more overtime to pick up the slack :)

I do plan on adding 5' or 6' cutter right away and also a tiller later on.

Yep, you'll definatally want the added HP.

Do you plan on getting a loader? You know....they are quite useful tools also.:D Like hauling mulch to the flowerbeds for the wifey:laughing:

The old Fords were designed with plowing in mind as job 1. I kept my 8N when I got the L3940, still comes in handy, plus it is a family heirloom now. Philip.

Getting a loader? YEP! That's one of the reasons I needed (Wanted) a Kubota. I have a pile of mulch next to the driveway that looks like planet has risen out of the ground. A guy came down the driveway in a big truck and asked if I wanted some mulch? Yea, I'll take a load or two I told him. He must get up a lot earlier than me - the next morning it looked like he dumped about 10 loads! But one of my fields has a big gully and I can use that free mulch to help fill it in. A Kubota with a loader would be like the Tonka Toys I never had as a kid :)
