Plowing with a NH TC35A

Turbys / Dave - I think your ideas about plowing later in the Fall are all good advice. I went out to the garden area this afternoon to put out corn for the deer. The ground where I had plowed about 2 inches deep was hard as a rock. I could hit it with my walking stick and it would "thump" and my stick would vibrate like I had hit concrete. I might try discing it now letting the rain soak in.

Ted - Your website is fantastic. Thanks for the link to the plowing section. I saw those American made items. I might have to drive over and look.

Thanks again to all.

Feeding deer in your future garden area: are you tempting fate or venison?

I just thought I would give an update on plowing NC soil. I took your advice and waited until we had several good rains before plowing. I waited until December, so the ground was much softer than summer time soil. My single bottom plow turned that soil over as easy as cutting butter. It is amazing how hard that soil can get in the Summer.

I have been thinking about planting our garden in the Spring. That reminded me of this old thread. I appreciate all the advice. I am looking forward to getting the potatoes and onions in the ground soon.

Up here, getting through the 3' of frost slows down our (dirt) plowing some, this time of year.
