I've been using a gang unit I rigged up out of 3 of those Home Depot aereators for the past 3 years and they have held up OK with the occasional use I give them. Probably wouldn't hold up very long in commercial use, however.

Added some outriggers to a 3pt carry-all that puts the 2 outer units where they don't tangle in a turn, and rigged a bogie wheel follower to position unit #3 in the middle behind the other two.

It will plug an 8-9 ft. swath in one pass. Holes aren't as deep as the heavy drum type units, but it makes it possible to aereate some real acreage in a reasonable time, and make multiple passes to really put down a lot of holes.

No backing up, and you have to plan on a 30 ft. turning radius. Also, since the units have wheels, it's easy to drive it where you need it, and it all dis-assembles in a couple minutes. I can also take one of the units off to pull behind the lawn tractor for smaller spaces.

As engineering feats go, this is a pretty small accomplishment, but what the hey, it gets the job done!
