Why would you need a septic for a carport.

The theory is that they want to check that you didn't put in a drain in your carport that channels hazardous materials (oil) in the the water shed (gutters).

It's still stupid.

Sure a composting or incinerating toilet would work, but what to do with the sink water?

If it was me, I would install a grind/lift station such as the one referenced in the link below.

This one will lift 36' vertically and push 328' horizontally. Not sure of the cost, but this is what you need.

Good luck with your project.

We used to have an electric (Incolet) toilet.
(they also make propane powered unit.)
Think of it, you literally are boiling the p--s and baking the c--p.
I can promise you that you do not want to be downwind when boiling or baking.
An other neighbor had the composter style unit and it used a fan to exit any odors.
The only problem was on a nice calm evening you avoided sitting on the veranda if there was no wind to blow the odors over to the neighbors.

All told the old fashion outhouse was still the nicest (aroma wise) option.
I have (somewhere) a copy of a government approved outhouse design.
Basically it is box sided with the earth mounded so as to form a dome.
The idea is that surface water cannot get in and flush out contents.
From memory, the hole was 2 ft x 4ft by 4ft deep.

I have sewage pumps moving whole house sewage as far as 600ft. and as little as 10. The larger the pit the better. That gives the pump a good run time. It also will flush the line on each pump out. Use a good brand of pump and good control parts. Put a check valve made for sewge and a good ball valve above it. You can service the system easier. The main thing to remember " if you didn't eat it , don't put it in the stool". Exeption, use a single ply TP. I have systems in that are 10 years old plus and have not been called back for service. I also have them 1 year old that are a nightmare. I am amazed at how STUPID college kids are!

I have a client who is an engineer for Hewlit Packard and from all indications, is very smart, and doing very well financially. He told me his toilet wasn't working properly and that he thought it was plugged up. They had only lived in the house for a year, and it had been empty for about a year before moving in. No problems until then. I snaked out the line to the septic tank and it was all clear. I suggested that he get the tank pumped and asked over and over if he had put anything into the toilet that didn't come out of him or his wife? If they had small kids come over or guests that might have flushed something down the toilet that should have gone in the garbage. They said no, and they knew not to do that.

The septic guy opened up the tank and it was completly plugged up with hand wipes!!!!!

I was a Pipefitter at John Deere in Horicon, WI and most of the time we had to pull a sewage injector pump from a big pit, you could almost bet there was going to be a pair of underwear wrapped around the impeller. :laughing:Throw them out the window or anyplace else, but not in the toilet.

Hi all!

At our place we have a 25x36 heated and insulated pole barn/shop. I am getting quotes on adding onto it and adding an office (so when done it will be 50x36 with an office of about 10x16).

It would be nice to add a toilet and sink. But, it's downhill and about 200 feet away from the septic where the sewage exits the house and enters the first tank (then the 2nd tank, then the mound system).

Besides pumping uphill are there any other ways this could be done? Maybe with a small pit, or something that mimicks a sort of porta potty? Or any other options?

Already have a water line run to right outside the shop and a hydrant hooked up, so it is possible to run water if needed by splicing that line I imagine (I have some friends that do directional boring that could do that part).

Or, I could just mount a urinal on the wall with a pipe going to the ground outside.. lol..

What is the lift needed to get from a foot or so under the toilet to the drain that goes into the septic tank which is 200 feet away. Unless I missed that in these posts, that is something that we have to know to give an better answer regarding lift pumps.

My house has a sewer ejector/lift pump in a 20 gallon basin located in the crawl space. Just had one problem in the last 12 years (about 6 yrs ago the float got stuck on some sludge that had built up on the side of the basin). I keep a water alarm on it now. My wife and I are very careful about what goes down the toilet (just toilet paper) and we have a sign posted beside the toilet for visitors.

My septic tank is about 120 feet away and there is about 2 feet of rise from the pump to the septic tank inlet. There is a check valve at the pump and 2" PVC pipe carries the sewage to the tank.

Brings back memories of helping them fish for the sewage treatment pump, chain on the end of the backhoe bucket swinging out over the lagoon trying to catch the eye. We were on the unplugging side of things. Amazing what people flush in campgrounds too, but 90% of it was condoms and lady stuff.

Must have been politically correct.... They believed in birth control......

The world is my toilet too and toilet papaer marks the spot so I don't step in it.....

Every tractor has a small roll and the shop has a roll on a peg by the door.

Tractors are great in the field, no tree needed. Just lean back against the tire but don't drive back over the spot until a month or 2 later.....

Indians wore loin cloth's for a reason and Amish women wear long dresses for the same reason....
