Thanks for the advice. I'll see about polishing the cam. Though I would hope after paying $200+ for it, I won't have enough too.

Is it 6 or 12 volt? Are you sure you have the right replacement?

It is now 12v. I'm 100% sure I ordered the right replacement distributor. And it looked just like the old one. But I didn't look it over for part#. I old points, cap rotor, and dust cover did fit the the new one.

With what do I polish the cam?

The spring on the two (2) sets of points I've put on have been ridiculously strong compared to any other points I've had to mess with. So there may be something to spring pressure. But because this is the only ford in my arsenal and both sets had the same amount of pressure I just went along with it.

I also thought that maybe it just needed broke in, but I can not explain away how fast it loses gap..

I may break down and buy one of the electronic ignitions and be done with it. Maybe Santa Claus will read my list this year.

Get the electronic ignition!
I put electronic on both my Ford 8N, and my Ford 3400.
Now they both start as soon as battery voltage hits the starter.
Wonderful!
