Poison Oak remedies.....HURRY!

*****This is Leo's wife Lisa responding, as Leo has never had poison oak rash in his life and I've been to emergency dozens of times for the shots......Never wipe your sweaty face off with your hands after hanging on to bare bush branches in the woods....LOL!!!****

I was going to suggest cornstarch or calamine lotion, but I just thought of something that's probably never been used before to treat it, and should work because of the method poison oak uses to give you the rash. ( The urishiol (?) sinks into the next layer of skin so if you can wash it off fast enough before it gets through, or put a good barrier (like soaping up your body parts well, and letting the soap dry on) you can probably prevent the worst of it.)

Try buying some 2% Salicylic Acid from your drug store. It's usually sold in a cleansing lotion form for acne blemishes and facial cleaning. It should not damage your skin -more than what the poison oak's done to it- and I think it'll dry up the poison oak oil and blistered skin really quick. Let me know if this works and I'll put it in for a science prize....lol

I've been keeping note of all the suggestions and I will be stocking a supply of cures for the future. Thank you for all of the suggestions. Looks like many of you have been through this more than I and many have had it worst than I have. Thank you for the sympathy.

Looks like I am going to make it. The Zanfel has done a great job of clearing up the worst spots. Those areas that had blistered and crusted over are pretty much gone after two treatments of Zanfel in the last three days. There are still a few red areas of bumps that have not blistered but they do not seem to be spreading. Ivy Dry and Benadryl Gel have helped block the infernal itching from these areas. Over all life is better.

In an effort to return all of the good advice I am going to share my new golden rule of country living. When clearing vines in the woods, NEVER, NEVER answer the call of nature. Trust me, I know! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thanks Guys and Gals for all the help. I am off to pick up my Haz Mat suit then on to the country for more clearing.
