to Bird and anyone i PM'd, i posted the question here first and then figured i might get a quicker response if i just pm'd you, so i wasnt trying to verify the answer or anything like that, i just needed a real quick answer as i am planning on starting the siding today, guess i should have erased this reply after i pm'd yall.

38" run on a 4/12 pitch will give you a 1-0 43/64 rise or you could round it off to 1-0-11/16

Your making this more complicated than it is. Just measure from the rat guard to the top where your sheet will overlap the other. Then move over 38" & measure where the sheet will end. Transfer those to the sheet you are putting up. You don't have to be exact because your trim will cover some.

easiest way is to measure center to center on ridges for 36 " covered panels. straight line left to right, then on the high side ( toward gable point) measure up one foot, make mark in center of ridge, connect the dots with straight edge draw line and cut. simple see. guys some people dont have all the building skills needed so its best to use the old analogy of KISS ( keep it simple silly) :)
