pole barn foundation

Hi TBN'ers
Can any one tell me the round about cost of a floor/foundation for a 30x40 pole barn in the upstate central NY area. Ive never had any pouring done for anything. All my jobs have been out of the bag size. A footer has to go around the perimeter too....right?

Normally, the poles are in the ground and are the 'foundation' in a pole barn construction. Maybe you are thinking of something else, other than 'pole barn' construction.
Some buildings are constructed on a floating concrete slab, which can move with any movement of the soil beneath the building. If posts are set in the ground for the barn to set on, then a floating concrete floor can be poured. It may move some with respect to the posts.

I have a question that goes along with this kinda, is it possible to asphalt a pole barn floor that is dirt? Or is it a bad idea. Cliff

I paid $2,000 for the concrete and labor for my 24 X 40 pole barn. That was 2 years ago. I am in Michigan. They finished the floor so smooth that wet boots or a little snow makes it very slippery.

Yep, it's possible. The center aisle of our barn was paved. They treated it just like a driveway. Good base, then pave. But you have to be sure that the holes the poles are in are well tamped. Otherwise, the dirt will settle and so will the paving. Don't ask me how I know this. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Whether paving is right for you, depends what you want to use the barn for.

Last time I priced ready mix it was ~$60/yard for 3000psi mix, if it was a full truck delivery, (min 8 yards). Partial loads, Sat delivery, other psi's or special ingredients will drive up your per yard price. Add forms, labor, rebar, mesh, power trowel, vibrator, floats, screeds, etc and the price just keeps climbing.

Mike, good point about the holes being well-tamped. My contractor did'nt do a good job of this. I have sink holes all around my barn that I have filled in several times over the last two years.

Many years ago, my dad put asphalt in part of his old barn. Worked OK until my brother tried to jack some equipment up in that part. The equipment didn't move, but the jack sank into the asphalt real good. The whole barn floor was changed to concrete about 10 years ago.

I had concrete floors poured in my barn's kennel and shop areas last year; about 2000 sq. ft.. I paid $2.40 per foot for final prep, forms, pouring, and finishing. I only put footers under the overhead doors. I had a brushed finish put on all kennel areas, and a fairly smooth finish in the shop (but not as smooth as some garage floors - too slippery).
