I thought I only had to take out one more tree. Turns out I had to get rid of four. I took out three today and will get the fourth tommorrow. The picture is of the first tree knocked down today.

Here is a shot of the second tree. For some reason its root system started deeper than the rest of the trees we pushed.

Funny thing about those roots. Just when you think you have a species figured out, something different comes along.

What really kills me is how you can have the roots cut all the way around the tree with a trench that's four feet deep, and the tree still wont tip over.

Thanks for sharing your pictures.

These black jack oaks are strange. Their root systems varied from tree to tree. You would think they would be a healthier breed with the complex root system they have. They are just scrubs. None of them came down the same. Some we pushed and they went right over. Others we pushed all the way to the ground. We pushed over the last tree today, it fell right on over. Tomorrow I will level the site, and begin putting up batter boards.

The picture is of the last tree.

I know those who are following this were glad to see the last tree picture. Sorry, but I've got one more. I did not have my camera when we pushed this one over so, I had to wait for the photo to be sent to me. This was one mean tap root. I'm in the picture for scale. I'm 6'2", The tap root is around 8' to 9' long. I had to share this one.

Well the holidays slowed things down a bit. Actually it came to a halt. This week I started digging holes and pouring the concrete footings.
