Pole building Estimates

We built my buddy a barn that was 10' high and 30'x60'. He said it would be plenty. Now he owns a dump truck and a dozer along with a camper and none will fit in. So 4 years ago I was going to out smart him and build a barn with 12' high walls and 32'x52'. Worked great till I bought this boat, 13'6" tall. As you can see my baby now sits in the drive and I have to pay to store it in the winters. My point is do not mess with anything less than 14'. That is what is allowed to be towed down the road, ect so it will fit in your barn. I tell guys to make it 14' with less sq ft then put a loft in the back of it, you will have the height and have more storage space.

If the ROPS on the boat would fold down like they should I think she'd fit fine.:D:D

Trust me, I have thought of that. There is a place down the road that rebuilds Corvettes and he said he could do the fiberglass work needed, but after a few measurements I realized the windshield was 4" too high. It does not look it but the height difference between the Radar Arch and the windshield is only about 12". The only way I could get it in is either make the arch fold down and put on wheels with no tires to back it in for the winter or leave the arch as is and go with wheels and no tires and lift the tongue of the trailer about 6' in the air to dip the arch in between the trusses. Not a easy task for my FEL since the boat has about 1,800# of tongue weight and weighs about 15,600#. I do not want to risk it so I just leave it sitting in the drive. My dad said to dig a basement.:D

SOS,
I have one of the Steelmaster buildings you have in the pictures above (page 2). If you have any questions about the assembly let me know. It is a steelmaster model A 30x40. I did not pour a slab only concrete footings on each side. There is a learning curve to installing and lifting up the rings but once you get the hang of it you can do one per hour. A 40' building will have 20 rings. The good thing about these buildings is that you can easily add more rings to make the building longer. The bad thing is that the kit comes with 5 gallon buckets full of nuts and bolts. 5000 to be exact.

Do you have any pictures of the finished product?

Mike has some very good advice here.

It is cheaper to build a bigger building now, then to build smaller now, and put an addition on later.

Pole barns are almost never big enough. Add at least 50% in size to what you think you need now.

Try to make the building as wide as possible, and space the frames as far apart as possible - fewer pieces, less labor, less cost.

My last shed had the frames spaced at 10' apart - in northern Wisconsin.

Good Luck,

Yooper Dave

I may be entirely wrong, but I wonder if you should go ahead and get all of your steel at the front end so the color is an exact match. Unless the economy gets so bad that material prices fall a lot, I also wonder if it makes sense to bite the bullet now instead of doing concrete later and prices potentially having gone up. Whoever said to do the concrete floor now because the floor will be covered in stuff later is absolutely correct. Plus, if you went with a bolt together building, you can use some scaffolding on rollers on the concrete to make it easier to put up.

The contractors around here (Mid TN) are looking for work.

I would purchase all of the steel right now

The price for 29 ga has dropped quite a bit, and has to be near the floor and will only go up with infalation and higher fuel costs.
