Political Correctness on TBN?

I do agree that someone has to police, oh did I say POLICE the threads occasionally. But It does seem that certain threads stay and others are removed based on the Moderators
personal preference.I too have had a post removed which generated quite a bit of feed back from TBN members.I really didn't have a problem with that, but------ an explanation on why would have been the welcomed by me. Hey like others have said, It's a free site with valuable information for the users, what's not to like?

I visit another website about land surveying and they don't moderate it as much as this website, and it suffers. People will get in personal arguments, on topic threads end up talking about politics and religon, and at times it will look like a drunken internet brawl. This forum is much better for the fact that the moderators keep track of it, and control it much tighter.

I've seen some cases on other sites where things were allowed to get out of control and it's really not positive for anybody involved.

I just come here to discuss tractors and country living related issues. If I want politics, there are many other places to go for that. Another forum that I frequent has an "ignore this thread" option and if it drifts to politics or religion, I just mark it as ignored and never see it again. This is not often necessary as they also moderate very strictly.

A bunch of Tractor owning fellas, all with their own opinions trying to communicate without some moderator being involved could get messy. Moderators are great as long as they are fair and do not play favorites, I think that is the key. Just my opinion.

Muhammad,
Thank you for your explaination. Although I've seen posts removed, and on some of them I've wondered "why?", for the most part I would say that the moderators are reasonably constrained. I am currently following a thread which, to be honest, I have been quite suprised has not been closed due to its political nature and heated debates. However, that being said, I am glad it has not been closed, as even with the heated debates, it has remained quite civil considering the content and I find the topic quite interesting and informative.

Again, Thank you for the hard work you and all the moderators do in keeping TBN a nice place to visit. It is always a pleasant suprise to see and read one of your posts.:)

Here you can put individual members on an 'ignore' list. Over the time I have been a member here two have made my list, and another is currently flirting with inclusion. I find the ignore list a good way to (help) keep myself out of trouble.

Right. The other forum has the "ignore member" feature, too. Having the option to just take one thread out allows me to benefit from the worthwhile posts of the periodically annoying. ;)
