pontoon boats

Funny....I never owned a boat that I didn't like. Time spent in a boat beats just about any other time, at all.

When you push the throttle forward and the hot, humid day turns into a
30mph wind...all your troubles go away. Owning a boat increases your quality of life 10 fold.

And, you may catch fish from shore BUT, you catch more fish from a boat and they are often much bigger, as well.:D

Buy a boat and leave your troubles at the dock.

BTW, I hate pontoon boats.!!!

this reminds me of the time I was talking to a man about my favorite places to go fishing and that I have caught 3-4 lb crappie and 15-25 lb striper's,
he then tells me "thats I haven't been fishing" fishing is when you go out 25miles out into the ocean and catch 100 & 200+ lb. fish..... I guess each to their own,
but for me I settle with fish that I can real in on 25 lb test line clean-um and cook-um up on a hot campfire skillet
I'm currently boat less but I hope this to change soon, Here are 2 of my favorite boats ever owned, the 1 is a '71 18' Carlson GT, I bought this boat from and elderly couple that purchased it new and simply got too old to use it anymore and was stored in their shed for all the years they owned it, it is the kind of boat that James Bond drove in the Movie Live and let die,....
I bought it boat about 12 years ago used it for a short while and was a member of a Glastron website club from Texas, the president from this club insist that I sell him my boat, I did and he drove all the way from Texas to here in Ga, to pick it up, he said it was a classic and he was going to put it in the Glastron boat collectors museum.......
the picture of the ten the teal blue one is a 21ft 280Hp I/O dua Prop Sports-craft Avanza, it would do about 65 mph, really hated to see it go but with the low level lake waters high price of fuel and the fact this boat was terrible on fuel, I decided to sell it off as well,

Boats are a hole in the water to put your money in. Best days of boat ownership are the day your bought it and the day you sold it.

mark

I had to laugh at this one because just a few days before I recieved my new Kubota B2320 (Last Fri)....I sold a boat and the new owner of the boat told me about the two best days of boat ownership:laughing:

Here's a pic of the old boat we sold and put our new Tractor in its parking spot......

Re: Pontoon Boat.....have friends with them and they love them.....very stable on the water....but they hate to trailer them (Loading them is OK but not going down the road.....Swaaaaaay)

One thing to leave you with....If you fish from the bank you have only enough lake that you can cast to......If you fish from a boat you have the "Whole" lake to fish......I love to fish from a boat, any boat!

What I posted was not a " scare post " foggy...It was a sincere post passing on my experience with both a 36 ft. Drifter houseboat and a 21 ft. Crestliner ski boat...I am here to tell you there is no boat , no matter how modern that does not require some form of maintenance or repair almost every time you use it no matter how well you keep it maintained. It must be since they sit on or near the water and are not used as frequently as cars or trucks...

Anyone who thinks it is a scare tactic by me or others...then go by a boat...buy several and you will find out ..2 happy days in a boaters life..the day you buy the boat and the day you sell it and anyone that is even a little honest ..that has actually owned a boat for any period of time will agree.

What I said wasnt aimed at you specifically....there just seemed to be so many negative posts regarding boat ownership. I have had numerous boats for many years....and they have not been money pits as some have said. Now your houseboat is a little different situation than a pontoon boat....as you have toilets, refrigerators and all kinds of systems to maintain.....a whole nother kind of deal.

With a pontoon....you have an engine to change oil and keep the prop outta the rocks.....thats about it.

Here is my current runabout "Knot a Kare".....and I cannot wait to go cruising in the next few days. Our family enjoys boating. :D In three years and about 200 hours of operation it hasnt cost me more than routine maintenance....same goes for my fishing boat. Maybe your just hard on stuff? ;)

Boats are mechanical devices and require a certain level of maintenance. Some of them get used a lot and some of them sit a lot. It's hard to generalize, but sitting on the water with a mechanical problem is not fun.

The main problem most people have is finding time to use the boats they have. If you look at the boating season, subtract off the days you have committed for other purposes, subtract off bad weather, and then look at your available time, it can be pretty short.

We bought our first boat after 50 years being stuck on the bank. Our son had a large pontoon boat for a few years before the economey went south and he had to sell it. We decided on a smaller pontoon boat and found a older 21 foot on Craigs list. The seats and carpet were bad but the motor was a 70 hp only 5 years old. We did a test drive on the river and the motor ran great and moved the smaller boat just fine.

Got it home and stripped the carpet and seats and ordered new. Put a new fish finder and even found a better trailer cheap. Have about $6,000 in the boat now, much less than a new one but with the new seats and carpet this one looks new.

Fished 3 days a week in it the first month we finished the restore. Caught more fish in the first week then we did all last year from the bank. Slowed down to about one trip a week now. Always one of the grandkids wants to go fishing or just a boat ride.

Other than the restore project plus tags and registration we have spent gas and oil weekly. Of course there are launch fees, $10 at the best spot, only $5 futher down the lake but you use that much gas to motor back to the good spots. Then you need all new fishing equipment and life jackets.

To me it is money well spent if it means spending quality time with the kids and grandkids. If it gets the grandkids off of the couch and outdoors and they want to hang out with granddad then its worth it..
