I know the feeling. Lost count of shovels rakes and others that have been lost to the woods by my son. Small price to pay.

I was bush hogging once, and I ran over a rake. I was quite irritated that my stupid wife would leave a rake out in the middle of the field, and I planned to give her a piece of my mind when I was done.

Fortunately, I had some time to think. I recalled that I had used the rake recently, and I forgot that I left it in the FEL. It eventually bounced out, and I ran over it. I decided not to mention anything to the wife.

Lifes lessons have taiught me to organize my tools and put them away as soon as I am done with them. That way they are where they should be and where I go to look for them. Otherwise they are where I left them, which I cannot remember. :D

Whenever I'm looking for tools there always in the last place I looked at.

Today I found the thing I was looking for yesterday, which I now no longer need or bought another one.
Years ago I knew a fellow who bought an old house and in the attic was a cigar box labeled "pieces of string too small to save".

That bugged the daylights out of me for several years. Now, once I find something, I keep on looking, just to see if I can find another one just like it.

The easiest way to find something is to stop looking for it.

Or to look for something else completely unrelated.

Last winter I put my studfinder in my truck because I needed it for a project at work. It fell into some sort of black hole, because when it came time to use it, it was gone. Looked everywhere it could possibly have gone...couldn't find it.
Yesterday, I was taking some crates of equipment down from the garage attic, and lo and behold, there was the studfinder. I have no idea how it got there...I haven't touched those crates in a couple of years. :confused3:

3 times while I was at HD I looked at getting a new one and decided I didn't want to spend the money that day, if only because if I did I'd be guaranteed to find the old one!

Here's one that's hard to explain. My father used to tap maple trees, bringing the sap out on his ATV in 5 gallon buckets. He had a gadget to remove the covers, which he lost on a trip out of the woods. He traced and retraced his steps and we even took a walk with my dog who was good at finding things, without success.

A few years later I found that tool laying on the ground near my shed... I live 200 miles away. I had never seen it before, let alone used it. The only thing that I can think of is that he had set it on his 8N Ford, and it fell off after he gave the tractor to me.

Did he set it on the back bumper of your truck? I've driven many miles with things setting on the back bumper only to find them later.

A box of nails or tool set will never stay on your bumper. My lady friend got me a pile of tools, some poor soul lost off his truck. Her and another guy had stopped and competed for gathering them up.
