Farmer Jones got out of his car and while heading for his friend's door, noticed a pig with a wooden leg. His curiosity roused, he asked, "Fred, how'd that pig get him a wooden leg?"

"Well, Michael, that's a mighty special pig! A while back a wild boar attacked me while I was walking in the woods. That pig there came a runnin', went after that boar and chased him away. Saved my life!"

"And the boar tore up his leg?"

"No he was fine after that. But a bit later we had that fire. Started in the shed up against the barn. Well, that ole pig started squealin' like he was stuck, woke us up, and 'fore we got out here, the darn thing had herded the other animals out of the barn and saved 'em all!"

"So that's when he hurt his leg, huh, Fred?"

"No, Michael. He was a might winded, though. When my tractor hit a rock and rolled down the hill into the pond I was knocked clean out. When I came to, that pig had dove into the pond and dragged me out 'fore I drownded. Sure did save my life."

"And that was when he hurt his leg?"

"Oh no, he was fine. Cleaned him up, too."

"OK, Fred. So just tell me. How did he get the wooden leg?"

"Well", the farmer tells him, "A pig like that, you don't want to eat all at once!"
I love that joke ! The rest of my family was mortified the first time I told it to them.

it's a bit big for using at the table unless you've got a grinder (though kosher may be too small for some grinders) but you can use it as salt when cooking like normal.

Got some hickory salt at an Amish store. Salty in flavor but with the aromatic kick of a hickory switch. Good stuff, but use just a pinch or it'll overwhelm.

That said, I use very little salt. Found a few different types of 'no salt' seasonings that work quite well.

No myth to it.

I've learned many new things on Tractorbynet over the years, and today I learned more about salt than I really needed to know.:laughing: I'd never heard of "chicken salt" before. I reckon I'll just stay with "Morton's Iodized" salt, or more recently "Great Value" iodized salt.:D Actually, I use very little salt, but my wife almost lives on salt, chips, and cheddar cheese crackers.

Never heard of chicken salt, but when we raised chickens, we had chicken chalk. As a kid wrrote all over the tar paper siding with that chalk. Lol

Your local trapper would use a non-iodized salt as a preservative when mixing bait, esp if he ran out of C₆H₅COONa. (sodium benzoate, it's in your canned soda and bagged snacks) Food grade doesn't mean you'd have to eat it, and you already paid for it.

Add it to what you use to salt the porch steps in Winter? Grind it finer and add to peanuts that don't come with enough? Trail snack if you have low BP too?

If you bought coffee at work from an urn you can bet the maker put a dash of salt in the grounds to reduce the bitterness. ;)
