Possible trade-up - BX2200 to BX23

While at the parts counter at my local dealer, the tractor salesperson saw that I was picking up parts for a BX2200. We started talking and before long, he had me interested in the BX 23. (which I was already very interested in anyway)

My BX2200 is an 02 model with 150hrs and has the FEL and 54"MMM. I would want to keep my MMM. His trade in offer for it less my MMM was $8000, this was without seeing it but the thing is in good condition. He offered the brand new BX23 for $14,500.(no mmm)

Does this sound like a good deal?

trade in the mower too, you get a new one with a new warranty. I did exactly this to an 03 2200, for an 04 bx23. My warranty on the MMM was over with the day I traded, so made sense to me, and dollar for dollar made no diff

If you really want a backhoe, that may not be a bad deal.

How much would a Woods backhoe for the BX cost? That would be an alternative idea.

It sounds like for $6,500 you would be getting a new tractor with full warranty. That might shoot the Woods backhoe option out of the water.

That is a good enough deal, IMHO, if that is what you want to do. I would agree with DannyD about getting a new MMM in the package. I would think a dealer could do that for $500 or so.

The mmm is in good condition too. I am only sortof hesitant because I put the $275 mulching kit into it - along with a second set of mulching blades for it. But I do hear you on the "keeping it all new" warranty thing too.

Does the lift linkage type on the 60" deck work better for an even grass cut than the one on the 54" deck?

The warranty on the mower deck isn't that much value to trade it and buy another unless the dealer is going to do it as an even swap. The mulching kit can be removed and the old blades put back on. In reality, you are paying $2000 for the newer machine. The difference in price of a BX22 & BX2200 was about $4500 when you purchased yours and the prices haven't changed much since then... Junk...

The warranty on the deck is only for 12 Months.

I personally would keep My old one.

not to mention that I have never heard of any problems other than the spindles not being filled with grease when delivered. I was the first to recognize this fact and when this came to light, I believe that there were no more than two people that had bearing failures as a result of this dealer caused defect.

Henro's right. You might think about how much you'll use the backhoe versus just renting one when you need it. There is also some disagreement about how well the frame on the BX2200 will take the stress from a bh. If you do put a bh on a BX2200, the Woods BH6000 is the best to get; still there are uncertianties. You might want to go back and read several long threads about that issue.

I got that same deal last year for my BX2200 on a trade for a BX-23. I kept my MMM and my snowblower in the trade and used them on my new tractor.
