Possibly the longest shop build in TBN history

I started a storage shop in about 2005. Until a few years ago half the rafters stood with no tin on them. Then two years ago I finally finished the siding. Now all it needs is doors....

I plan on using wood trusses. I thought about metal but I want to deck the ceiling and blow in insulation. I haven't fully figured out the walls yet. I want to stud it for insulation and to hold inside wall material but my engineer wants me to put steel cables between the post.
I did not put anything in as I poured, my engineer said that was one of the weakest ways. He suggested and after reading more on it, I decided on epoxy.

I almost had a heart attack when I bought some lumber last week - seemed really high and then I heard on NPR's Market Place this evening that lumber had doubled since February. I used steel purlins on the walls and roof and am going to use steel wall panels after we spray foam and add some extra insulation on the west wall.

If you are going to insulate the walls and finish off the interior, then stud framing is the most economic. You can go 24 inch on centers for your studs if you use 2x6's, but it's really not that much more to just stick with 16 inch centers. My walls are 12 feet tall and that has worked out great for me. I wouldn't want anything lower then that!!!

I still have exposed trusses on my ceiling. My eventual plan is to put metal on the ceiling and blow in insulation. I really need to do it because of how hot my summers are, but I always seem to have something more pressing to do. I want to use metal because my trusses are 4 feet apart and nothing else will span that distance without adding any more support or lumber.

This is the approximate schedule of my barn project as well.

Maybe we should have a contest -- who has the longest-running project they still consider active?

I started my shop in my mind 40 years ago. Maybe foundation will be next year.

Looks like you are making good progress but I think I have you beat on a project dragging along. The main slab was poured on New Years Eve and I still don't have the roof panels on yet. Between weather, covid, work and money slowing down, other farm work to do, it all gets in the way of getting a building finished.

Are you going to use wood or steel purlins? Did you put J-bolts in the slab to bolt the beams to? Keep the pictures coming - it is always nice to see what other people are doing.

I have you both beat....It took me 3 years to get mine done. Started late 03 and got it weather tight and usable late '06. Still working on finishing the interior walls, LOL.
